I'm not sure if that's exactly what they're called but in any case, do any of you know a good program that'll allow you to put your name and such on a photo that you personally took without messing up the actual photo?
What exactly do you put in this watermark/copyright mark? Been wanting to do this for a while now since none of my photos have them and I'd like to put these marks on some of my better photos. |

This is called a watermark. You can put whatever you want in it, typically, though, it is the photographer or company name. The copyright symbol or the word "copyright" is sometimes used as is a date, but not necessary. If the image is not registered with the copyright office, you will probably only get an injunction to stop the usage, which may not be worth the cost of suing. If it is registered, you can get damages.
Disclaimer: the above is a laypersons understanding of the copyright law. Actual information should come from a copyright lawyer. Photoshop can do this, either Elements or CSx. Elements can batch many photos and put basic text all in the same place in the same color. Or one by one, you can put them anywhere you want with what ever color. A CS version may allow more complex water marks, run as actions, though I would imagine the location and color would be the same. Paintshop, GIMP, and any other graphics program that allows layers and text should be able to do this. I use photoshop elements, so that is what I am comfortable with, though I rarely watermark as I rarely post images online. The exception is when I post to my Zenfolio account, which watermarks the displayed images automatically. Basic text or an existing graphic is fairly simple, though more complex stuff or making graphics can get more complicated. |
