who here eats corned beef hash for breakfast?

good stuff eh?
6/17/2006 5:44:16 AM EDT
[#1]
It's good but not everyday good unless you don't want to make it to 40.
6/17/2006 5:44:42 AM EDT
[#2]
It definitely provides enough ballast to get you through 'till lunch!!  I just ignore what it does to my arteries.....

[#3]
Greatest canned food ever. I like mine fried a little crispy with lots of Trappey's Red Devil.

But why do you limit it to just breakfast?
6/17/2006 5:48:59 AM EDT

lips and assholes.

tasty though

mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm, corned beef hash.....

I think I have a can in the pantry.

Hash, fried eggs, hominy, and biscuits sounds real good for breakfast this morning.

Now to go wake up the cook.........and maybe get a little pie as an appetizer.

6/17/2006 5:56:15 AM EDT
[#7]
yup, that stuff is good eats!!

The very best 'corned beef hash' for breakfast was served at Talley-Ho...a little hole-in-the-wall, greasy spoon cafe in N'awlins.

I don't think it survived Katrina....

Good stuff with eggs and toast.

mmmmmmmm corned beef and fried eggs and some tabasco on top!  Just the kick to get the day started!  My son loves it too.  The wife just shakes her head and mumbles ... ewww, dogfood.

Corned beef hash (a little crispy, thanks) with some scrambled eggs topped with fresh salsa is a little slice of heaven on a plate.

When my dad and I go out shooting we usually meet at his favorite restaurant for breakfast, and I always get the hash. So corned beef hash also reminds me of shooting with my dad and the great conversation over coffee. Wish I could do it every week.

If I had some corned beef hash I could have some corned beef hash and eggs. If I had some eggs.

Couple of Diners around here make it Fresh and it's pretty good, now if I could only find a Diner that served Scrapple

Food of the gods.

I don't eat it much anymore but I used to LOVE that MRE, with the Tobasco sauce in it.
6/17/2006 6:46:48 AM EDT
[#16]
I love it, but its a 20 mile round trip to the place that serves it. Lots of places serve chorizzo and menudo, but few do corned beef hash. Los Angeles has become a province of Mexico.
6/17/2006 6:47:51 AM EDT
[#17]
So good, and so bad for you.
6/17/2006 6:49:25 AM EDT
[#18]
I love it with fried or poached eggs on top.

One of my rules of thumb: I have certain food items that, if the restaurant offers "home made", I must order. They are corned beef hash, split pea soup and pecan pie.

Tolly-ho survives to this day . . . they are a chain (maybe not the same place) they are in several cities that I have heard of, very close to college campuses.

Breakfast 24/7.

Pancakes, cheeseburger and a large choc. malt . . . staple food when I was a senior in HS.

if you want it for dinner, fry up a few french fries, chop up about half an onion, mix all this in a frying pan w/ two cans of corn beef hash. Fry it up on the crispy side....dammit that's good eating! Like previously stated..ignore the implications to your arteries..
6/17/2006 10:19:54 AM EDT
[#21]
I love that stuff!!
6/17/2006 10:21:15 AM EDT
[#22]
Great stuff!

It's good with some nice runny over easy eggs with toast.

I used to eat it with my dad all the time as a kid with creamed corn on top.  My mom hates the stuff and the smell so we ate it when she wasn't home.

gues I know what I'm cooking in a few minutes

That stuff should be classified as a laxative.

Make your own.  Coarse grind potatoes, onions and corned beef.  Salt and pepper to taste.  No extra crap make patties and fry until done.  As long as you don't over do it when frying it isn't too bad for you and is a hell of a lot better than the canned stuff.

Also roast beef hash using left over roasts or steak or tri-tip.

I haven't had any in forever.  I think I'll put it on the grocery list.

Loved it as a kid with lots of mustard.

I fry it up with two eggs over medium and wheat toast!! YUMMMMM, heart attack on a plate!!!

[#30]
damn now I want some.

6/18/2006 12:51:32 AM EDT

Heard of it but have never had it.  Sounds good though.  Can I get a little more info on how to make it.  With the people that that say that they are going to make it soon.  Can you post a photo. And...........

Learned to love it when it was an MRE main meal, I think I actually prefer the MRE hash to regular hash. Cook it up with some eggs and add Frank's hot sauce....good eating.

The MRE CBH was pretty good, I loved the "escalloped potatos with ham" but it seemed nobody else did, so I always got my favorite.    I like most MREs, the only really nasty one was the omelet with ham.
6/18/2006 2:59:47 AM EDT

Great, now I want CBH and MRE's.

Time to raid the MRE stash!
6/18/2006 3:44:27 AM EDT

I use it as one of the ingredients when I make my "Bubble & Squeak" Burritos...

I love it.  I like it with poached eggs and ketchup all mixed together.

We made our own this year after St. Patrick's Day with the leftover corned beef, it was great.

I LOVE it in the winter when icefishing I make jiggly omeletes. First cook and break up some sausage, then add one cann hash cook, then add 4 eggs, and tabasco, cook some more, and serve up jiggly omeletes!~~

Worst MRE ever barring cold chicken ala king or turkey loaf

Trust me...not the same place, at all.

It was a hole-in-the-wall.

Hopefully, it's still there.

Love it for breakfast, just a little on the crispy side. A decent breakfast of that will last you `til supper.

Stryker - the MRE isn't bad, if you can heat it up, but cold it's just goo.... I think I still have a few in
the coldroom downstairs....

Chairborne - yep, the potatoes & ham were good, but the omlet w/ ham was some nasty crap! I gave
a chunk of it to a stray who was begging when we were on the Kuwaiti border, and he just sniffed it,
and walked off. Who said dogs were dumb?!

DT120 - I couldn't deal w/ chicken ala king. My gunner had one that blew up on him (we're guessing
that it had leaked into the bag and fermented) when he cut it open, and it took us a couple of weeks
to get rid of the stench! I couldn't touch it after that. The turkey loaf was edible, sort of. Now for
mystery meat, there was always 'Ham & Chicken Loaf"..... (Dating myself here..... )

I like corned beef & hash with scrambled eggs all wrapped up in a tortilla like a burrito
6/18/2006 1:10:19 PM EDT

Homemade with Red Irish potatoes and left over corned beef.

May be a dumb question, but several folks have mentioned frying it.  How do you fry it?  My Mom used to serve it a lot when I was a kid, but IIRC she just heated it up in a pan on the stovetop or microwaved it.

microwaved hash must look like dog food....

When I was a kid my dad would slide it out of the can, cut it into inch-thick slices, coat them in italian-style bread crumbs, and fry the slices.

that's good eatin.
