I'm curious.  When I list stuff for sale I use the craigslist service to forward me questions and the like before I decide to speak with them on the phone or what have you.

When I reply to one of those do they go back through CL screening them from seeing my email?  I'm hoping so.

when you reply, I think it goes straight to them (they can see your email)

but when they simply send you something, they can't see anything about your personal info

CL will forward them your name and home address and whether you like imitation crab meat and model trains.

They used to not have any anonymity built into the ads... If you wrote back to anyone who answered your ad, that person would see your real email address.

Now, I'm pretty sure they do proxy email addresses for both directions.

ETA: email address is proxied both ways, but the name you associated with your email is passed through to the ad poster.

I hope you are right mall-ninja.  I just don't want my email being sent around to even MORE spam.  And I've already got 3 people ask if I'm willing to trade.  And I've said sorry no.  I want MONEY.

So I know they aren't the "Yes, I want to buy our item"/

The creepiest thing about that ad was how that guy put in there that he was "not gay" after talking about the mutual touching.

That reflects a profound cognitive dissonance on his part, and by "profound," we are talking John Wayne Gacy levels of dissonance here.

I know, and it amazes me that those words still live on in my memory along with his face. VERY creepy shit.
I will always wonder what became of him...and his trains. The crabmeat we can assume, was eaten.

One of my major gripes is people who don't put their phone # on their Craigslist ads.  You want me to buy something you're selling?  But you're going to make me email for your phone #?  And you'll decide if you want to talk to me? Most people that do that ###t don't ever respond to an email. ###k that noise!  I'll spend my money with someone that posts their phone #.  News flash: you can't sell ###t while hiding under a rock.

BTW: I sell a LOT of stuff.  Craigslist, Ebay, word of mouth.  I make damn sure I'm accessible to anyone that want to put money in my hand.  No problems with spam at all.

I ran across one the other day that specifically said "No emails or texts, phone calls only!!"  No phone number whatsoever.  Did the "search other items from this user", they all said the same thing and had no phone number.
Google voice and have them meet you at the closest Wal-mart is the best way I've found to sell on craigslist.

I never put my personal contact info in a craigslist ad - same with a local gun board. It helps weed out the "tire kickers".

Never had a problem doing it that way.

Just put an iPad on Craigslist yesterday afternoon - had a response within 10 minutes, made contact, and he's picking it up this morning.

But I do respond to every inquiry, even "low ballers"- can't blame them for trying, and several have ended up buyers.

Works for me.......

Simple solution is to open a yahoo or gmail account.

mall ninja is correct.

I put my contact info in the ad,

Like the other poster said, for the most, I PASS over those with no contact info when I'm buying.

I've found those who only use the CL email, will never respond.

Why everyone doesn't have google voice or a throwaway prepaid and a dedicated spam email account is beyond me....

Or a second email with your provider that can be deleted if it becomes spam infested.

What is this google voice?  I shall do a google search.]

What I am selling is several different things that seat at $1500.  I've been very successful in the past doing this without giving my phone number on CL.

I do see the wisdom of starting a second email account and shall do that today and enter that into the ad.

Thanks

not to completely derail this thread, but have you ever bought a gun from CList?
Save your breath, I know it's not halal, but I do see the ads here, and everyone is willing to trade something for a gun.

Google voice is a free service that gives you a cell number that you can forward to your cell or home phone. With the iphone (and presumably android) app you can make calls and send texts from this number. You can easily block callers using google voice or simply get a new number. In short it lets you give a phone number on your ad that will ring or receive texts but provides anonymity and an easy means to bloc or change the number.
