I have a bike listed on Craigslist and it seems that I always attract the scammers.  Here is the most recent scammer:

Scammer:   IS IT IN GOOD CONDITION COS WOULD LOVE TOO KNOW IF IT'S STILL FOR SALE?? :-S :-S :-S

Me:  In my opinion it is in like new condition and has never fallen over or wrecked.  As of right now its still available.

Scammer:  Hello,

Thanks for the swift response, just to let you know that am
okay with the condition and price of the item, am ready for its
purchase and my form of payment will be by  sending you Check via UPS
next day delivery.

I'll be responsible for the pick-up and the pick up money will
be included in your payment to avoid delay and to enable pick up
company to schedule an appropriate time for he pick-up at your
location after check has been cashed,as i have other properties to be
moved alongside with yours.

I would have really love to come for the viewing but due to my
work frame that might not be possible, but if you have the pics, might
want to have a good look. Please do get back to me with your full name
and address including your cell and land number so i can make out
payment.

Regards.

Me:  I am glad that you like the item but I must first inform you that I do not take checks.  I prefer "Ben Franklins" and/or a USPS money order.  Once you agree to these terms I will prepare the item for your movement with your properties.

Thanks for your interest.

Scammer:  I really wish i could come or call but am on work inspection..i can
only afford to send you a company check which can be easily cash out
at any cashing point or bank please do get back to me with your
details so as to make out the payment.

ME:  I am sorry, but my bank only allows local currency or USPS money orders.  I have argued to no end but for whatever reason they will just not accept them.  The nerve of them dictating what will be accepted for currency.

You seem like you would really like the bike and I feel that its unfortunate that the circumstances are as they be.  Only maybe that you could afford a USPS money order the constraints would no longer be present.

Scammer:   Just for clarifications,I'm not gonna send a Money Order , I'm gonna
send my company's check and that will only take few hours for it to
clear...Get back to me with your full name and address including your
cell and land number if u are willing to sell it to me...Thanks.

Me:  I fully understand that you will be sending a company check-- that is the part that my bank has a problem with.  Like I had mentioned earlier, they normally do not have a problem with USPS money orders or hard currency.

It will keep happening. Don't respond. In your ad, ask that a word be put in the Subject line. For example "Bike". This way you can weed out spam & scams.
