I been doing some loan shopping latley and I found out my credit socre is 761, they said that was good, how does this rank and what makes it up

It's made up of lots of things, Mullet.

Anything over 750 is really good.  When you get in the 800's you can buy whatever you want.

The formulas which calculate the number are hyper complex and closely guarded, and make no sense whatsoever.

I found out a couple months ago that mine was 748.  The loan officer told me that really anthing 650 is good and excellent is 755.  Anything under 600 means a major problem and you probably won't get a loan, and if you do it will have a high interest rate.

You have three bureaus scoring you so to be completely prepared you should know all three..but 761 is a good score

We bought another house last summer and IIRC the realtor said only a few percent score above 750 (I think).

It's really not hard to figger out.  Take on more debt, and your score goes down.  Don't pay your fucking bills, and your score goes way down.

Own your own home and have good equity, and your score goes up.  COMMON SENSE stuff.  The formulas may be high speed, but the fundamentals behind them are fundamental.

A few months ago I had mine checked at the bank and it was around 740.  I tried freecreditreport.com and filled out a bunch of crap only to hear nothing from them.  I have to get it checked since that illegal alien stole my identity last fall.

Wow, I am always amazed at the creditworthyness of ARFCOM.

Anything over mid 700's qualifies you for the best rates on almost any loan.

When we bought a house, my credit score was about 750, and my wife's was about 710.  They told us both were very good.

I know a couple that has a higher credit score than me.  They have two car payments that they can barely make and have been late on, rent they can barely pay, a child, and credit card debt.

Now how can that be?  I have two paid off homes, several paid car loans and leases, etc. and never a bad mark or late payment.

Is the credit score a gullibility number for how much a person is willing to go into debt???  WTF!

Thats generally true, unless there are other issues. For example,  I had big students loans  (yearly salary < loan amount),  and this raised red flags even though my score was 750.

807 midrange here.  It will get you the best rates but I just applied for a zero down and I'm still paying pretty high.

FICO scores go from 350 to 850.

Taxman, you have an excellent credit score.

I've posted my scores in the past, but I'll spare you all the horror and refrain.

You are going to have to pay to see your FICO score (unless, like a poster said, you bank/car dealer/mortgage guy pulls it and just tells you.)

It'll be ~$12 at www.myfico.com, using discount code myscore20.

You can get free credit reports online.  You can get free 'scores' online.  But what you want, what actually matters, is the FICO score.

mine was 730 something but got pulled down now to 640 but it was at 630 last month.

Fucking MBNA. Never deal with MBNA they seem to like to fuck yeah and make up charges and so on.  They tried turning me into collections for missing one payment I already payed. Than I bitched out one of their telephone people and they closed my account And the funny thing is my account was closed and no balance was owed and I have contacted the right goverment agency and also have sent the certified letters etc. We will see how this play out. They fucked my credit

Go to MyFico.com ..pull up your report...click the link that allows you to dispute the inaccuracies online.  I've done this a half a dozen times and it always came out in my favor.  You'll get resolution in 30 days.

True story

This is free - really free, by virtue of a law past this year, which offers every citizen one access per year to their Credit Report

They become available to you by area of the country, with most already available

take advantage of this, as it could really help increase your score to know what is on there, what is legitimate, and what needs cleaned up.

Your Credit Score is everything in this day and age.

Credit is a lot like cash

Never run out, or in this case........... never let it slip too low.

You're right.
Qualifing for the best rate should be prefaced by saying after you qualify for the loan.

Even if you have one of these super high 800 type scores doesn't mean you can borrow $500,000. You would still need to show a means to service the debt.

YES they will

If you use it properly, it will.

I have done it, I have done it for others. This is a goverment sponsored program and is the law.

Select Equifax as your choice, and I assure you........if you haven't already used your one pass per year, you will get a numerical score

The easiest way to judge your credit score is by the number of credit card applications you get each day.

Having been a slave to banks for the last 28 years, I finally paid off the mortgage and I am in the process of reducing the home imporvement loan in large chunks.  To be in debt is to be enslaved.  Sorry for the rant, but getting out of debt is now so close that I can smell it and the feeling is real good.  If I had realized how much money the mortgate was taking from me, I would have stopped paying it years ago.

Actually, it's even better than that. You'll be allowed one free report from each of the three reporting agencies. Contact Equifax, TRW, and Experian. I've already tapped two, and decided to save the third untill later in the year.

Clark Howard (financial guru) recommends hitting one every 4 months in a rotation so that you get a fairly quick indication of any problems that crop up.
