My house is wired for cable. What do the dish companies use for distribution? Will I have to rewire my whole house? I don't want cables stapled all over the soffit.
Thanks. |

I've been with Dish since they launched their first bird in '96. I've never had a problem with them. I also have experience with Direct. If you like sports Direct is probably a better bet, but if you are like me and prefer movies then Dish is better. I prefer Dish, but either one is better than cable! |

If your installer is anything like mine, they'll want to run new coax. I had quad-shielded RG6 run everywhere in the house, less than five years old. He insisted on doing new runs to the receivers.
Same thing with Comcast when they installed my cable modem. New wire from street to house. |

There are numerous factors that go into each persons experience with dish or direct. I have used both here in Florida and my experience was absolutely horrible. Picture was crap half the time. Slight rainstorm and there goes TV. Something hits the dish, get on the roof to realign. Internet is ridiculous. 15Mbs speed with a 50GB cap? Better off with local cable provider for broadband. Why buy TV form dish, internet from local cable provider and phone from vonage? I pay a 100 a month for internet. That's it. I also have Netflix so add $10. Prime cost me 100 a year but I buy that for amazon purchases, the shows are just a bonus. |

Quoted: Thanks. Eases my mind. Cox bundle ends on the 30th. $100 for cable and $35 for phone (with taxes and fees). I can get 150+ channels for $24.99 first year and $59.99 2nd year with DirecTV or Dish, and Vonage for $18.99. FCOX Why do you need vonage? Do you have cellphones? We had vonage for the simple fact the wife needed to call Germany. Finally dropped it, added the $5/month hit on her cell through Verizon for world calling...comes out cheaper than Vonage after per minute charges by about $15/month (we were paying around $34/mo for Vonage...) |

Cancelled my Dish satellite service and went with Dish Sling. Couldn't be happier. Also use Phone Power for phone service. Have had it now for over 2 years (just renewed) and it works just fine. Upgraded my cable internet speed and everything just runs great and it is WAY cheaper than before.
YMMV |

Quoted: I'm cutting Dish out after this season of Game of Thrones. Going to streaming. I'm tired of the bills. I still have Dish for basic TV but also went with cable internet for streaming movies and saved that $60/month...

I have Dish. They can use existing RG-6 coax. But there needs to be a straight run (without splitters, etc.) from the multiswitch to each receiver. That's why it's sometimes easier just to run new cable.
My house has three independent sets of coax. The first runs from an amplified OTA antenna array in the attic to each TV location (that's my "free" backup system). The second set was formerly used for Cox cable, and now carries Verizon FIOS Internet. The third set is Dish satellite, connecting 2 rooftop dishes to 3 receivers. Note that each of these services runs at different frequencies, so it would theoretically be possible to multiplex them all over a single coax wire set. But I wanted to keep things simple. (I ran all the wiring myself.) |
