My wife bought me a set for Christmas. Am I going to die?

I've been riding on rollers for quite some time.  They don't take too much practice to get used to.  Make sure to put down a mat under the back wheel portion lest ye enjoy practicing your "carpet sprints" .  Put it up next to a wall when you get started, get on and ride like normal.  You'll love them!

Sooooooooo....did you crash your bike in the living room yet?

Put them in my basement, between a wall and my incline bench. Fell over sideways once when the bench slid after I leaned on it (forgot how slick the tiles are) but otherwise so far so good.

I am riding with sneakers instead of clip shoes until I get a little more comfortable.

Die? Probably not.  Crash after wobbling frantically? Yes.

Take video.

Do you have a power meter on your bike? Or even a cadence sensor would work.  If it's bluetooth or ant+ compatable you should look into Zwift.  It's a ton of fun.

I have rollers, I dont like them, I feel like a stupid awkward idiot when riding them, I have my SPD pedals on them but ride with running shoes as I have no desire to try to clip in on them.  Have ridden off the side of them several times but no real wrecks.

Keep your hands in close to the centerline on the bars. It will help minimize wobble, until you get good at rollers.

Doorways work well when you first begin.  Unless you have a resistance unit, rollers are mostly good for working on balance and cadence as well as a way to keep an indoor recovery session interesting.  Don't focus on your front wheel; focus on the wall in front of you and intermittently scan down to your front wheel.

Since there is not much resistance, ride a big gear.  The more angular momentum in your wheels, the more stable you'll be.

You'll eventually be able to drink water during your session

I still won't ride my tri bike on the rollers though.
