My wife went to a Rheumatologist for muscle pain.

He prescribed her a months supply of the generic form of 30mg Cymbalta.

After a month, he was going to supply her with 60mg after the 30mg had helped some.

Last week, conveniently as they were closing on a Friday evening, the doctor's office called her and told her to stop taking the drug immediately and schedule a blood test ASAP. She had the blood test on Monday, but we haven't heard anything on the results....just like every blood test ever had.

But since discontinuing the use of the drug, she is getting what appears to be withdrawal symptoms.

Cold sweats

More pain

Foggy headed

More emotional

Easily angered

Sleepless nights

She would wake up in the middle of the night in pain, sweaty and crying. I ended up getting her some sleep aid medicine the next day which seems to help her sleep a lot better.

We looked further into the drug and it appears there was a lot of lawsuits in the past over withdrawal symptoms associated with the drug.

Anyone have a similar experience?

my wife had the same experience, and i think she was on the 60mg when she got off of it.  They never told her about the possible withdrawal symptoms and to wean off of it slowly.  Cymbalta is bad shit.  Get her off of it and never touch it again.

Doc told her if she were to stop, she would need to taper off.

But he told her to stop taking it completely and cold turkey.

And it's hard to taper off as the lowest dosage is 20mg.

Pop it open, remove half. She now has 10 mg to taper with.

My wife was prescribed that drug for anxiety. she took it once and said she did not like the way it made her feel. I tried one to see what she was talking about. God Almighty that was a bad day. I would rather NOT take it and be depressed. That drug makes you feel terrible.

That's just weird to ramp someone up on a drug like that then tell her to stop, of course it's going to be awful.

My wife was on it briefly and stopped.  We've got a few boxes still in the cabinet, however I don't remember her having any problems stopping; might have been tapered.

She stopped b/c she got all weird and shit and didn't like the way she felt on it- definitely some bad juju.

Withdrawal from any SSRI or SNRI can be obnoxious. Usually not dangerous but can make you feel like crap for weeks. I've had patients withdraw from Cymbalta for months.

Not sure what lab they drew that forced them to say stop immediately. It carries a black box for suicide as all of those drugs do. FDA guidelines say check kidney function and blood pressure at the start and then periodically thereafter.

If any of my patients show up with kidney damage, Cymbalta is not going to be my first guess as the culprit.

Any antidepressant is going to have withdrawal side effects if you stop cold turkey, except maybe prozac.

I have been on Cymbalta for nerve pain, for several months, I like it better than Lyrica.

Lyrica caused a ton of tendonitis that was as bad or worse than the nerve pain.
