I heard when they first began, the owner of the company approached his lead engineer, asking him to create a name for the new company.  He gave the engineer a 30 minute deadline to come up with a name.  The engineer immediately replied with "dat soon?"

I had a 1975, Bosch FI, I LOVED that car, it was a bit heavier then the 240 and 60 but it ran 10X better and you didn't have to keep fookin around with duel carbs. For it's day, it cranked out VG HP figure from 2.8 liters and it loved to rev.

I had a 300Turbo later in life but It never could compare with the early lighter models for driving fun.

It would be cool if they brought back the 510. Same body but with modern suspension.

I had a '81 310 with a 1500cc engine. It would get 40mpg on flat ground. In the mountains was around 30. It didn't go up hills very fast either. I put a shitload of thermostats and front brakes on it.

Looked like this one.

Mine was a silver 280zx turbo.  I loved that car.  I got hit by another car and it was totaled. Such a sad day.

I bought a new Datsun 510 in '79. Great car, it could handle the logging roads in the Cascades almost as well as a  Land Cruiser.

My '81 510 had the same.  Sadly it was well worn when I got it but it still ran forever.

Nissan put that same engine in a 4 door wagon that my wife called  Wally.  As in Wally wagon the same thing you would drive cross country to Wally World.

I always remember a conversation I experienced when I was in high school between one of the "preppy" girls and one of the long haired "freaks" I hung out with. She says "why do you guys always drive hot rod cars" and he replied "becuase it's hard to be Hell Bent For Leatherâ„¢ in a Datsun B-210" (Judas Priest reference for you kids).

This concludes today's blast from the past.
