Had something shipped from Italy. Small town near Udine.

DHL picked up at 1646 Udine time on Monday.

It's at my local airport at 0754 local Wednesday.

Even with the 7 hour time difference, that's pretty darn fast.

Only experience I ever had with DHL was when my original Xbox shit the bed many years ago.  MS' warranty service shipping was handled by DHL at the time.  The driver came out with the packaging, we packed up the Xbox and off she went.  Two days later I had a repaired Xbox.  Best fucking service ever!  I imagine it was pricey too since they don't use them anymore.

My experience with DHL has been not as good . The driver hit my truck and fled the scene . Later was found to not have insurance .

DHL used to give out free boxes. In high school a friend ordered about 500 large boxes and they all showed up at a teacher's house.

What?

The truck wasn't covered under a fleet policy?

DHL is usually subcontracted to local delivery companies.

Perhaps they're like FedEx and hire a lot of independent contractors. Though I'm not sure how the insurance works but I'm sure they'd require it to be current to work as an independent driver.

I hate DHL and have never had a good experience. I've paid extra shipping to NOT use them.

Fuckers left a $3000 laptop on the front door of an apartment despite every other carrier leaving packages at the apartment office and EXPLICIT INSTRUCTIONS being left with the order, AND a note on the door. Which was left because of previous DHL experience of them not following instructions. Lost shit. Late deliveries.

DHL can eat a dick.

Years ago i needed new wheels for my MG Midget. Found out I could get the same wheels with tires mounted and balanced, including shipping via DHL, from a small shop in England at less than half the price of the same wheels here in the states without rubber on them.

I ordered on a Friday or Saturday, and they were sitting on my front porch by Wednesday morning. That was insane.

I bet he got all his deliveries out on time, though.

My experience with DHL is that if you want to send something overseas, particularly to obscure places like Albania or Kazakhstan, they're about the best (sometimes only) option that will get it there in any reasonable timeframe. It ain't cheap, but it gets there within a few days.

Just wondering - if it was such a big deal, why didn't you address it to the office instead of your apartment?

well, heres my experience currently.

ordered a Micro SD card from Newegg.

Left Edison NJ on the 22.  As of today (28th) its sitting in Maryland.  I'm in NJ. Regular mail would have been here the next day because Edison is only 30 minutes from here

I looked out the window one day only to see the DHL driver rolling a 15k aluminum short block off the back of his van on to the sidewalk then speed off before I could even get out there. Luckily it was shipped back in my packaging and we'll protected but I could have killed that mother fucker.

Using DHL to ship a SD card 100 miles is, as they say, "real retarded sir."

DHL is for sending stuff to obscure overseas locations where other carriers either don't or won't go, and where the normal postal route would take forever and/or get lost/stolen.

I've had nothing but slow shipping from DHL.

I guess they haven't lost anything yet, but it's not uncommon for something shipped by them to sit at one of their sorting facilities for 3+ business days before moving onward.

I avoid them when I can.

I'll say again - they only do international shipments here in the US. If it's sitting for multiple days that means it's waiting for customs or other clearance.

There's no reason to even consider them in the first place unless you're sending something to some obscure place overseas. That's their only real advantage over UPS and FedEx - they have a wider footprint of logistics across the globe in places that the other carriers have nothing. Using DHL to ship something within the U.S. is silliness.

Chandelier from Venice. Was keeping an eye out for it (easy on account of bright yellow truck). Saw it drive by, and the dude tried to deliver it two houses down. He had left it in the neighbor's garage and was leaving when I caught up to him and asked him about it.

DHLs aborted attempt to get into the US local delivery market was one of the stupider decisions they've made in recent years. (And that's saying quite a lot.)

It's a monster company and the vast majority of its business in the US is handling import/export for other monster companies, they're actually really good at that.

I've got a front-row seat to this particular subject since my wife is a customs broker and works for them in management.

The complete restructuring of their US operations that's been ongoing for the last five years or so hasn't gone very smoothly but we're hopeful the current round will finally straighten it out. They just haven't quite recovered from the domestic carrier debacle yet from an organizational standpoint, they should have years ago but for whatever reason it took them until recently to clean house.

I expect things will get better in future, at some point they're going to need to stop offering services they aren't suited to providing.

Yup. College buddy of mine worked for them in Prague for a while, they have a big facility near the airport there. Big international logistics is their thing. Delivering your individual consumer box within the U.S. is not.

Too bad they didn't give me an option.  I would have preferred usps.  Which is ironic because they bust the amazon prime promised 2day delivery by 1-2 days so much  I had amazon flag my account and NOT use usps because they are so unreliable.

And it's here. A DHL van delivered my package. From northern Italy to Dallas in 54 hours and 52 minutes.  Yeah, that accounts for 7 hour time difference.
