Just got back from my friends house. Helped him set up his FiOS network.

Holy fucking shit. Downloaded 20 gbs of data in 1.5 hours.

Can't wait until it's available in my area.

he's gonna cry when it finds out the charge per gb after 10GB

We both read the agreement carefully.

He is setup for tv/phone line/Internet. There is no monthly limit on bandwidth. He may be paying extra though.

I've been waiting for it to be available in my area for a long ass time. Until then I'm stuck with 6 megabyte/sec DSL.

He has been calling monthly, bugging them for about 3-4 years now. Not sure if it helped at all, or simply just annoyed them.

Millions of dollars worth of equipment and installations isnt rushed by one guy being a pain in the ass on the phone.

The hardware has been setup for a while around here. He started really harassing them when they kept canceling on their appointments and re-scheduling them.

In areas recently set up, its damn near impossible to get an appointment with a representative.

Peak FIOS?

Me I'm indifferent.

I have FIOS but they charge alot of money for the highest package and they cap the package to what the competition is selling.

Plus, once you go FIOS, you can never go back to cheap DSL/copper lines.

He is paying $90 for cable (including movie channels and HD channels), basic phone, and the Internet.

That is just the introductory price though. Not sure what it's going to jump to.

They tore the heck out of the neighborhood getting the lines in a month ago, hope it's worth it.

No, that is an actual speed test from my home account which costs me USD$100.00/month.  Their service has been terminated, and I am waiting now in my office for the rep from the new company, which has wireless for $65 bucks a month.  64Kbps/500MB cap per month on downloads.  I'll be using Arfcom Lite quite a bit.

Remember kids, the third world makes you appreciate the US more.

And yes, I was kidding about hating his effing guts.  Jealous, yeah.  Hateful, no.

More power to you guys that can get it.  I'm sure there's some Marine in Assholeistan or Iraq that would kill to get what I have.  I just hope he kills Hajji instead.

I'll run a test from my office account and be back with an edit in a minute.  Not MUCH better, but it's more consistent.

Yeah.  That was the straw that broke the camel's back.  Paying that much for service that runs that slow, is just plain wrong.  That was after I had tried to have them fix my connection.  I went from 56K download to that.  That's Just Not Right.

Not only that, guys:  My laptop is running Vista, and the company would only get 1GB of RAM.  Talk about SLOW!

I cannot imagine what it would be like to get that kind of speed.

Its nowhere near as good as ya'lls shit hot internet and its pretty expensive for what it is... but it sure as hell beats dialup.

Verizon is running fiber around her but I don't know when it will be available. It's already running in some neighborhoods.

I have Time Warner now. Saw something on TV about upgrading to turbo boost but I don't know what that is.

My hometown just got DSL back in February 2008 .

I'm happy with my 5/1 cable from Time Warner. I really only use my PC for browsing and email so I don't need outrageous speeds.

I -AM-, in a world, of SHIT!  Actually though, being able to get on the net AT ALL is a miracle.  Phnom Penh is not actually "backward", but generally all the good stuff goes to the rich Khmers with important relatives, if you know what I mean.

I have used FIOS for probably two years now. I was very excited when they tore up the neighborhood installing all the lines, but I have been completely unimpressed with the service. I was the first person in my neighborhood, and one of the first people in South Tampa to get the new FIOS service. In the beginning, connectivity was finicky. "Mini" outages every 10 minutes or so made surfing ARFCOM an aggravating experience. It improved over time, but the speeds never reach advertised. Currently I have the 20 mbit service and according to speedcheck I max out around 16. Recently they sent me a new Actiontek router to replace my ancient D-link and Motorola TV box. At first everything was wonderful, lately the intermittent outages have been reoccurring at an annoying clip. I was told I am on the "old" FIOS equipment (PPPOe I think) and if I want to be switched to the "new" network  (DHCP  I think) I would have to cancel my service and start new. Since I'm moving in a few weeks anyway I decided to just stick it out when in reality I want to tell them to shove their superior technology up their ass. Sideways.
