DVD burning software > General Discussion

I got a new DVD burner for my laptop. It's a +/- RW DL. (Sony DW-D56A)

I'm looking at getting Roxio Easy Media Creator 8 Suite.

Should I get it or something else?

Thanks for any input.

I've "heard" that Roxio was kind of buggy. I've used both Nero and Sonic RecordNow. They work pretty good for me.

Roxio SUCKS. SUCKS HARD.

Buggy has hell.

Go NERO and don't look back.

Also, DVDShrink if you wanna "backup" your titles.

Nero is the top of the line in dvd burning...

you can do most anything with it.

Now I've been trying to find A good dvd ripper... So I can make copies of my dvds play those and archive the originals...

I've heard smart ripper is good but can't seem to find it anywhere. not to hijack the thread but anyone got any ideas?

I'm interested more in quality rips than small size.

I agree Nero 7 Ultra Edition is tops for DVD or CD burning.
If you want to make copies of your DVDs, use the latest versions of DVD Shrink and DVD Decrypter, they both work in conjuntion with Nero. Just do a search on Google to find them. I have yet to find a DVD that they won't copy.

I've looked at these... haven't tried them yet but it looks like they save to an iso file... I need a prog. that will save to eithor .avi or .mpeg

I use Nero for burning CD's and DVD's. DVDDecrypter and DVDShrink for making ISO images of movie DVD's on the hard drive. To play back ISO directly of the hard drive (so I dont have to actually burn a DVD) I use VideoLan.

Anything Roxio just plain sucks period. I trade Rush bootlegs and have burned 1000's of cd , and dvds and know that fir sure. Nero is good, or for dvds I really like DVD Decrypter its a freeware, works realy well, and is simple to use!

What you're actually looking for is an application that will convert a DVD image to .avi or .mpeg. I don't really like using anything like that because you usually loose some quality in video and audio because that application will actually have to compress that DVD image to fit on a smaller .avi or .mpeg format. If I come across something worth mentioning I will let you know.

I'm partial to Roxio, but only because that's what's come with each of my burners. I've tried the trial version of Nero before, and liked it.

I stopped liking Roxio when they picked up that name....can't remember what they were before but they dropped previous versions from support & updates & expected you to buy the new version.

slysoft anydvd is very good at removing protection so you can *backup* commercial dvds, it works on some of the newer DRM schemes like macrovision ripguard, sony aarcos, etc.

I use Sony Vegas/DVD. I am very happy with it. It is expensive but since it supports dual layer burning I coughed up the $100. I have used it quite often, every vacation and group range trip I burn a movie for everybody.

Have you ever tried searching for the DVD images using any of the available search engines on the internet for Bit Torrent? You will need a high speed connection though.

sony=dvdfab decrypter and vobblanker

To make a long story short, here's how to do it:

(1) rip the movie(any movies) with the latest from DVDFAB Decrypter into your hard drive, wait until it's successfully completed (this usually takes like 12 - 15 minutes only).

(2) open up VobBlanker and follow the below steps:

(A) INPUT = load your already ripped VIDEO_TS.IFO from hard drive
(B) OUTPUT = make a new VIDEO_TS folder in your hard drive or if you have 2 hard drives, then set the new OUTPUT into a different destination aka hard drive (this will process faster like 5 minutes only)
(C) click "PROC.ALL" at the RIGHT
(D) click "PROCESS" at the bottom

then run it thru shrink

it takes awhile 40 min total, there are other programs also but these are free.
