So I have a DVD that I've watched hundreds of times.

Now I can barely watch it because it skips so much.

So my question is, did I 'wear' the DVD out, or is it because I'm watching it on a Playstation 2?  Would a 'real' DVD player be able to play it without skips?

Might be a lost cause.  Sorry.

Sounds like it has scratches. Unlikely is it has bit rot which is deterioration of the material by repeatedly heating the disc with laser. Haven't heard about bit rot since laser discs though.

Too much Wall Street for me

I did notice my laptop would play some DVDs that my PS2 wouldn't read...
