Has anyone used this?   I have seen them advertised here and there.  It is supposed to surround the extractor spring on an AR15 bolt.  Is it usefull or just aftermarket crap?

never owned or needed one but,

i have seen some rifles that had extraction problems. These did fix those rifles.

I've got one. I was having bolt-over problems that were actually related to the mags I was using. I added the D-Fender in the process of debugging the problem. It seemed to improve extraction a bit.

They seem horribly over-priced at something like $5 for what is basically a little o-ring gasket, but it did seem to help.

I like them as a precautionary measure on rifles with barrels less than 14.5"

Rather than use the add on, I just bought some heavy dute springs from Wolff Gunsprings.

    www.gunsprings.com

Toally cured the problems I was having w/an 11 1/2" barrelled CAR,  Actually got a pack of 10, put them in all the ARs, and have left overs for any that wear out. Oh yes, the Wolff listing says use black inserts.  Don't bother.  The black and the blue ones are exactly the same, except for color.

Two of them were used by DaveG to cure my AR-10A2. Thanks again, DaveG!

After that, Armalite started placing "O-rings" over all their extractor springs.

To help extraction better for my shorties, I
install:
 1.  Heavy duty extractor spring.
 2.  D-fender or O-ring from Auto-part store.
O-ring will work the same, but much
     cheaper.

It's like duct tape. It's never the right way to repair the problem, but it might work anyway.
