| Ronnie Sox "The Boss," 67, of Richmond, Va., formerly of Burlington, N.C., lost his courageous battle with prostate cancer at his home on Saturday, April 22, 2006. The Boss, as he was often referred to, was in the minds of many, the greatest drag racer in the history of the sport. His following and his fan base, even to this day, was a true testament to his success both on and off the drag strip. Ronnie is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Alecia Diane Sox; his faithful and loyal Maltese, Phoebe Mae Sox of Richmond, Va.; his father, Willard M. Sox of Burlington, N.C.; three sons, Dean (Lynn) Sox and Jeff Sox, all of Mt. Olive, N.C., Mike (Tammy) Page, of Mebane, N.C.; one daughter, Rhonda Poleo of Kure Beach, N.C.; two brothers, Tommy (LaRue) Sox, and David (Pam) Sox; one sister, Sandra (O'Delle) Binkley, all of Burlington, N.C.; six grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews and a host of other family members; his two lifelong friends, Bill and David McCaskill of Burlington, N.C., Lloyd (Erma) Desper of Richmond, Va.; fellow racers, all his golfing buddies at Shamrock Golf Course, many devoted and loyal fans; and last but not least, longtime racing partner and friend, Buddy Martin and wife, Carolyn, of Fayetteville, N.C. |
