Well last night someone broke into my mom's 2013 Ram and rifled through it. Nothing taken since we remove money and electronics when we get home. It just makes me mad.
Made a police report. The alarm that comes with the truck was set but as near as we can figure, the theif had a black box scanner to open the doors. It is something that is being used in Austin to break into cars by unlocking the doors. Police know about them and there is not much that can be done. Now the question is, what secondary alarm for a car is available in today's market? Just something to make a lot of noise when the doors are opened. (added the darn - Paul) |

For $40 you could get some stupid loud pizo horns and rig them up under both sides of the dash and under both seats - think like four smoke detectors going off all at once. You need some sort of hidden switch to kill them from the exterior like a key-chain remote. |

When button is pushed it will open doors on most gm products and toyota cars. Car manufacturers use an algorithm to generate car access codes. Someone managed to duplicate the algorithm and using a random number generator with the algorithm, they can get your car's key fob code to open your car doors. Our local tv station had a piece about it a couple of months ago which included video of the thief using it. Police say you can buy one on the net. |

Can you wrap the car in tin foil? What part of Austin? Bouldin Creek neighborhood. It appears to have happened about 6am. My security camera was tripped at 6 but it is a cheap type without infrared. I may hang a small game camera to cover the driveway that has infrared flash where it can not be seen. Right now I would like the anti theft system from the old robo cop movie- the volt 2000(i think) all you have to do is vacuum up the ash.
