The Surrounded by Bikers thread got me thinking, and wondering if having video evidence of having to protect myself would be a good thing so things don't turn into a he said/she said contest.
I started looking at dash cams on Amazon, but it is a little overwhelming at how many different options there are. What is the best cam that I can get in the $200 range? |

I get tired of plugging mine into and out of the cig outlet. And the wire hanging down from the window. I'll tag this thread for more information. |

Hardwire it to a 12V supply wire that only has current when the vehicle is on. Quoted:

Here's the one I bought. I went through three different brands models before finding this one. Got it on sale for $129. Keep an eye out for a sale. Produces very high quality video and has worked flawlessly. Let's you embed your plate number and speed into the video. Includes a GPS receiver for speed tracking.

So I went with this. It's a little above your price point, but I really like it. Many people go with the BlackVue. Those are great dashcams, but I greatly prefer having an LCD screen on my camera. If I'm involved in an accident, I can immediately show the responding officer I wasn't at fault. I can review footage on the fly. Setting up the proper angle and ensuring the camera is recording is easier, etc. The bundle I linked also includes a rear-facing camera. That's very important to me. If someone in a road block/riot/road rage tries something, I want it on video. |

We have an entire stickied thread on Dash Cams in the Armory.

![]() Dash Cam - How to Hide Wires for Beginners Have mine hardwired. Videos on the internet showing how to hide the cable. Mine stays running all of the time, haven't had issues with car battery. It will automatically save the clip if the car is jolted over a certain G-force. It's a nice added insurance. |

Then attach the leads to switched power (with a inline fuse) same idea as buying a fixed wire install kit but free Attached File Attached File Attached File |

I have been really happy with my Lukas 7900 I've been running for the last few years.
He is a clip from the camera, I had a starter not engaging the fly wheel issue on past Ford. To give you an idea on on video quality. ![]() '13 F350, Starter Noise, Not Engaging Fly Wheel? Low light ![]() Osprey Takes Bird Off Palm Tree |

Best for the price in my research, the tech is constantly updating. This model uses a capacitor not a battery, so it is not degraded by temperature change.
1440p and 60fps. Tiny. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01HN0HBFG?tag=vglnk-c102-20 |

This the one I got for my work van. Be sure what ever one you get, that it is 1080....

I don't know how these things work. Does that mean you can only record 10 minutes of video on a card or what? Quoted:

That's my question too. Can you hit a button to "save" the past 5 minutes or make a bookmark on a longer trip video? Say something funny happens in front of you and you want to save that, then, an hour later you get in a fender bender. How do you get both parts if it records in continual small loops? Quoted:

Not to hijack your thread op but WTF do OEM manufacturers have backup cams but not built in dash cams? Seems like a no brainer |

With the yi dashcam I can hit a button and it will grab the last 5 min or so and protect it I can also interface with it and grab videos off of it with my phone wirelessly my 32gb flash card can hold over three HOURS of video before recording over the earlier footage It starts up and records when I turn the car on automatically |

I don't know how these things work. Does that mean you can only record 10 minutes of video on a card or what? If you see something you want to save, just hit the save button, and that file will be flagged so that it won't be overwritten, or just make sure you get it before the camera recycles it. I would get a copy of it off the card asap, if it's from an accident, of course. |
| Just to add another reason that I went with the one I did is because when its installed right in fron kf the rear view mirror with the lens just below the black it is virtually invisible from the outside unless you are looking for it. Also it doesnt obstruct any if the windshield while driving. |
