So, I got this game for the PS3 on the 14th. Just beat it last night. Best survival horror game in history, period. I can see it being good for another two playthroughs at LEAST. Anyone else having fun with this amazing game? If the Activision-Blizzard merger was enough to scare EA out of uninspired sequelitis and into making games like Dead Space, all I can say is: BEST MERGER EVER! Competition = good. Also has the distinction of being the first EA game (that I've noticed) that looks and performs noticeably better on the PS3 than the 360, rather than vice versa. Guess their programmers finally got their heads around the PS3's code. |
Oh, I won't. I will say it does keep its awesome flow and atmosphere, and the plot REALLY becomes a mind grenade toward the end (in a good way). I'm gonna have to play it again now that I have a more complete view of the story just to wrap my head around the plot. Let's just say if they make a sequel, I will buy it on day one without hesitation, and will also be picking up the Blu-ray prequel movie when it's out later this month. I wish the Dead Space limited edition with all the cool shit wasn't like $300, or I'd totally buy it... love the story, love the art, love everything. One thing that's really cool is when you beat it, you keep ALL of your stuff for your next playthrough, and you can replace Isaac's engineer suit with some extremely badass level 6 military combat armor for 90,000 credits on your next playthrough as well. |
Hey what level is the DLC obsidian suite. Also i am on chapter 5 rite now and this game is just blowing me away. |
Level 5. Be forewarned though, you do get what you pay for. The free obsidian suit's armor rating is only 10%. A regular level 5 engineer suit is rated at 20%. Also, once you put on the obsidian suit, you CANNOT change to anything else except the $2.49 DLC scorpion suit or the 90,000 credit level 6 military armor that becomes available after beating the game once. |
Really? In what way? DETAILS! I NEED DETAILS! (Reason I ask... I own both consoles, and I'm definitely buying this game-just not sure for which system.) |
Colors are a little sharper and more correct, black levels are NOTICEABLY better, the framerate is more consistent, and textures are a bit more detailed. Load times during play (which you hit frequently since each room is loaded as you approach the door to it) are shorter as well, and level load times average about 2 seconds shorter. Basically, EA used to make their games for the 360 and then port to the PS3, but late last year they switched over to the PS3 as their lead platform, and as such Dead Space was developed on the PS3 and then ported to the 360, so that's the reason for that. There was a high def comparison vid done somewhere that I saw, but damn if I can remember where anymore (wasn't gametrailers). |
IGN probably...they tend to do the console game comparisons. |

This game is AWESOME! I just started it on the PS3 last night. Very Dark, very creepy. I think it takes the survival horror genre to a new level. They did an excellent job of letting the sound and music make the game scarier. Amazing detail in the game. I just got through the first part of the "medical ward"... <shudder>And this is defintiely a game to be played in the dark, with the surround turned up. But most definitely NOT a game for kids. Very gory, bloody, messy, scary.. heck you name it ... |
Well, Dead Space does have some zero G vacuum environments that rather resemble the contents of NObama's head, complete with floating, dangerous shit bumping about in there. |

Just finished my second go round.
Good game, GREAT plot. If games like Bioshock and Dead Space are any indication, the WRITERS of videogames have their work cut out for them from here on in. And, if you think about it, it's rather a sad state of affairs when video games are kicking Hollywood's ass in the compelling story lines and plots arena. Okay, now I'm ready... bring on Resident Evil 5! |

I'm thinking about picking up a copy in a few weeks. I have to beat Fallout 3, then Left4Dead, then cycle back and finish X3, then I can move on to Dead Space.
This is one of those rare times when there are too many good games to play. Enjoy it while it lasts! -James |
