| Was Dean Martin a drunk or was it just part of the act? |
A classic to say the least |
Thats some funny shit there....I don't care how old it is.
|
Good one |
|
His son was an F-4 pilot in the California Air National Guard who died after his F-4 Phantom crashed into a SoCal Mountain. An officer in the California Air National Guard, Dean Paul Martin was killed during a training mission when his F-4 Phantom Fighter Jet crashed in the mountains of California. The crash also claimed the life of Dean Paul's Radar Intercept Officer, Ramon Ortiz. Dean Paul Martin was 35 years old. Tragically, Dean Paul's son, Alex, who was 14 at the time, watched his father take off on the ill-fated flight. The wreckage containing Dean Paul Martin and Ramon Ortiz was not discovered for five days and their families did not know if they were alive or dead. Dean Martin never fully recovered from the loss of his son and he retired from show business that very year. http://groups.msn.com/DeanMartinforever/deanpaulmartin.msnw |

| He was no drunkard, according to Angie Dickinson, and some others who hung with that crowd, most of the time on stage Deano was sipping apple juice. Still one of my favorites, I got some of his tunes on my Ipod. You want funny shit, Foster Brooks was the funniest drunk ever. |
It wasn't really much of an act....he was an alcoholic....a pretty severe one. ...but hot dog that fella could sing. One of the smoothest voices ever recorded and probably the most efortless style of any singer I've ever heard. |
Dean Martin could be so drunk he could barely stand and he could STILL sing amazingly. He was a gifted singer. |
+1. In fact, when he roasted Dino, I think Martin was going to die from laughing so hard. He could never pull that off today in our PC America.
|
True, like I said above, these young uns need to google "Rat pack" Those guys could party harder than ANY Frat boys combined! |
|
Jonathan Winters has always been one of my favorites. You never knew what he was going to come up with next. Don Rickles was a VERY bad influence on me. When he had his TV show in the early 70s, I was young and impressionable and his show was my favorite....so I became extremely good at insulting other kids. ![]() CJ |

The golden age of comedy. Foster Brooks was a genius who could not exist today. |

"You're gonna live forever. You had your chance to die." (Or something about like that.) ![]() CJ |
OMFG ![]() Thanks for posting that. "Don't write letters folks, we cover 'em all" |
+1 He was funnier than SHIT!
|
My father who wasn't much of a drinker but had a similar beard. He used to do a dead on impersonation of Foster Brooks. As a kid, I didn't quite know why it was funny but it would always crack me up. |
Foster Brooks was definately one of the masters. He is timeless. |
Nope it was a act. Martin was not a alcoholic. |
He wasn't a bad actor either. One of my favorite old westerns is Rio Bravo starring John Wayne, Martin, Ricky Martin, and Angie Dickinson. |
+ 1. AND +1!!! Although also I remember SDJ´s line: "that Guy got PUSSY RADAR!" LMAO! |
And those Matt Helm movies! Yeah, they were corny, but back when I was a kid I enjoyed watching those at the drive in. |
No where near as good as he was in "Sons of Katie Elder", IMO. His classic scene where he "raffles his glass eye" is as good as anyone has done anywhere, IMO. |
Your mom is from Steubenville, OH? I lived right down the street from where he grew up. |
| Rickles was a killer too, I don't know how those old guys got away with the shit they did on stage. If they did those jokes now they would get strung up. Sammy jumps in Deano's arms, and Deano says, "I'd like to thank the NAACP for the use of their negro". Thats a career killer now. |
Yep, it's amazing how things have changed in just 40 years.
