My SS deposit supposedly clears 4th thur each month.  March, June and Sept each had 5 thursdays, but deposit cleared 4th thur.

December deposit is scheduled to clear this week, which is the 5th thur of the month.

WHY?   the Dec 4th thur was three days before christmas, willing to bet lots of people had lay a ways, gifts, and food to buy.

I've asked Sen Collins Office to look into this:  Who, why, how many......Just because a republican disabled male vet might not  be reason enough?

Don't know anything other than my Mothers check was supposed to be direct deposited on the 21st, and it's still not there.

Edit. Went to look again and it was put in there today.

Is your birthday the 21st-31st? If so, payment scheduled for 28th. https://www.ssa.gov/pubs/EN-05-10031-2016.pdf

Payments are based on Weds not Thurs.

You're going to get from the Senator's office.

Nothing to contribute but I still have almost 30 years before I will have to worry about this issue

Mine is supposed to come on the third Wednesday of every month, and I always get it a day early.  No difference this month, got it right on time on the 20th.

I have actually thought about that scenario and honestly the only way I see SS fully going down is a complete US economic dollar collapse. I believe that both the federal pension system and SS will be around.

Oh I only have a few years before I'm eligible for that pension in my 40's

SS requires a complete overhaul.  People are getting paid out for longer/more money than they paid in.

There is not enough job growth to make up for the added expense.

Your thoughts are great, but the math doesn't add up.  They're paying more than they're taking in.  At the current rate (with no change) the estimates have SS having zero dollars in the 2020's.  There isn't enough free budget for the government to take it from other areas (ETA: to make up for the shortfall).

Without serious overhaul to the entire system change is unlikely.  Attacking SS benefits is a death sentence for a campaign, so both sides will continue to pass the potato until it's too late to fix.

I've accepted that I'll never see a dollar of my SS contributions, I just wish they'd stop taking it from me.

Time to start writing some letters. Feds collect 25% of my SS for income tax and a bunch more for Medicare. I don't want to pay ANY income tax on my SS. Already paid income tax on those earnings.  Been paying for Medicare since the mid 60s and will keep paying for it until I'm dead, and they still don't pay shit.

Dems think this is the "land of what is free." They have been taking my money and giving it to free loading ass holes all my life. I just want to die with what little I have and leave some for my kids and grand kids.

If you can't go an extra few days before starving to death or getting kicked out onto the street if SS doesn't put money into your account, that is a personal failure, not a govt one.

That is what emergency funds are for, everyone should have one of those that should never be tapped into for normal living expenses and immediately replenished if taken from.

If someone is truly that broke, Christmas presents bought on lawaway should be something that should be examined and possibly reduced or eliminated.

I agree there will be a restructuring of the system but I would bet good money that it will never come to an end unless there is a collapse on the US dollar.

I believe it was Bill Clinton who made SS payments subject to the income tax.

Correct answer ^^. Check day is Wednesday. SSI is paid on the first. If it's a holiday, it's paid early.

I was under the impression it was Reagan.
To Clintons credit though he did get through if you are at full retirement pay and are collecting and actually still working you are not penalized on your benefit payments.
