As further (and contrasting thoughts) on my What every audiophile needs thread
I thought I would pass along what I really like and some thing I learned For me I really do not like the base rattling your filings out sound. and like a bit more treble to hear the snap of a high hat etc. I like my sound more natural bit just a bit is enhancement at the high and low ends where my hearing naturally rolls off. Many blow money looking for the perfect sound but through some education you can save some money and have a great sound. The biggest thing to remember is to go for what sounds good to You. (we all have a sound we prefer) One trick some audio sales guys will do is during an A/B test is to play the one they want you to buy Longer than the other one so your ears get used to that sound and not to the other. Then you start to prefer that sound. Another one is the Gold Craze, Silver and Copper are actually better conductors. In RF where it really counts Silver plated connectors are used. But in the audio range It is really not needed. Speaker wire is a mixed bag Plain old wire is all that is neededand you really only need the heavy wire for the bass since that is where most of the power is the Mid and Highs really can use lighter gauges. The exception is long runs if you have a long run you can use a heavier gauge, though in practice I have not noticed a difference. I tend to use plain old zip cord speaker wire. There is some Merritt to a dedicated outlet, and a decent surge suppressor. The surge suppressor to protect your equipment and the dedicated outlet may be good to keep other appliances off the circuit and throwing spikes on the line. I'm sure others will have some thoughts as well |
