So Im working on a few more laptops for the pawn shop...Im stuck on one that has a BIOS password.

I know it can be reset on desktops by pulling batteries and flipping jumpers and whatnot.

Tried the same on an old Dell for the pawn shop and all I got for my trouble was a laptop with a split case.

Any idea on removing this BIOS password or defeating it? No hints available from the previous owner, either...

Same as with the desktop, pull the battery.  Just be more careful this time. ;)

Laptops will often revert to a default password if you pull the battery (or it dies) rather than resetting to no password at all.

Google the manufacturer and "default bios password" for hints.  There are also some that require that certain pins in a parallel port be jumpered, or something similar.

You're not referring to the exterior battery are you? Because that has been out for an hour and it still has a BIOS password...when I mentioned it in my first post I was referring to the mobo battery...

You can pull a mobo battery or reset the jumper too.

Some have a separate jumper specifically for the password. Clearing the BIOS won't have any effect because it's stored in different NVRAM.

I meant the onboard CMOS battery, yes.
