Just wondering what the hive consensus is on pepper/tear gas sprays. I have started to carry them along with my gun on a daily basis. The reason is that a confrontation with unarmed people may justify the use of a spray, but not lethal force.
Also which is preferred pepper spray or CS tear gas, and why. The research I did online suggests pepper spray is faster, and shuts the eyes better, but must be applied more accurately than tear gas, and has less affect on the lungs then tear gas. |

I carry OC for the same reasons you mention.
Personally speaking, I've been subjected or subjected myself to both, and OC (pepper) spray was much more effective in shutting my eyes down, which I consider a key ingredient in reducing the fighting effectiveness of an aggressor (which is really the point). They both seemed to work equally well as lung irritants. Neither inflicted enough discomfort to stop me from pursuing any action I was determined to perform. Which means I wouldn't bank on attacker being incapacitated. Only rendered less effective. |
| I posted this a while back but at a bar the owner sprayed a guy with saber red from a keychain holder. The guy stayed on his feet and the spray was more of a mist I gave him my Fox Labs 5.3 stream and the guy hit the ground like he was shot. When the cops showed up there was a 2 to 3 foot circle of snot and drool. |
