| I just went down to pick up a transferred 1894 and the FFL was told transfer "delayed" and I would have to wait a few days while they conduct a more in depth check. He said that has happened several times over the past few weeks. Does anyone know about this?? |

Just wait the three days and pick up your gun. |

Delayed approval - they have an additional three days to review your background check. After this time, the FFL dealer can legally transfer it to you if the FBI or your state agency does not report anything else.
I had it happen to a customer who had a DUI several years ago but still was able to get his CWL. Did you use your social by any chance? |
|
I was delayed two purchases in a row last year.. First one was a handgun, got delayed 3 hours. Second one was for an AR15, got delayed 22 hours.
Fuck you VA, for not letting CHP holders skip the background. Yes, I always put my social security #. Just because I've had residences in DE, VA, PA and MD in the past 4 years. |

If he gave his SS # all should have been good. Bullshit hold up, nothing more. |

Well there you go.
They use my social. I was arrested but not convicted for disorderly conduct because I had an illegal fire in my outdoor fireplace. I don't think that would prevent me from owning a gun. A delay means the initial examiner saw the arrest and forwarded to the second reviewer, they could not immediately clear it and you get delayed. They look into the arrest and once they clear it you get a call saying its a proceed. As I mentioned before look into the UPIN. |
|
I get delays all the time. Uncommon name, only one speeding ticket, even with my SSN.
I don't have a UPIN but I don't see how it would help if I get delayed with my SSN. I have called the denied number before and asked them to look into it. They are usually very nice and apologetic about how they can't talk to me. To which I reply, that's fine I understand, but if you could look into my name for a purchase at this FFL, it would help me, I'm leaving town and it would help. Both times they helped, once got a go 15 minutes later, the other an hour. |

I like that, I think I have heard it before but it is always worth reposting. |

I get delayed every single time since about 2005. Some fuckstick in Texas with the same name and physical description got in some shit, now I get to deal with it. I usually just go home and pick my stuff up the next day. However during busy season it has taken as long as 4 days (the FFL could release to me after 3, but none seem to be willing). |

Never delayed till last december, pretty regularly now. I think it is because of a few multiple "other" purchases at one time & multiple pistol purchases at one time.
It is a pain & kinda embarrassing but not the end of the world. They should spend more time following up on phone calls from other countries about possible terrorists then worrying about me |

Delayed ≠ denied. Before I got my CHL I was delayed on every single one of my firearms purchases going back to 1999 when I was 18.

I hope that doesn't become my case, but it seems like it will. I do not have a common common name at all, give my SSN, and still. Do you (or anyone else in VA) know if the VCDL has ever attempted to get the law changed so CHP's let us skip the checks? Shit just doesn't make sense to me, I get an FBI background check run yearly for work.
