I have never had ANY problem with my records. I went to pick up a new AR and I was put on delayed status??? Granted i moved to new mexico, and still have a colorado drivers liscence, but I have a new mexico address. It is ok in new mexico to purchase rifles with an out of state liscene............what gives???????

that's happened to me before, it's nothing too big from what i've seen.  Sometimes the ATF is just too busy to be able to process at that time, or there was some discrepancy, usually they need 5-7 days.  It does suck when you want your rifle/pistol or whatever it is and you can't walk out with it.

I believe the NICS is ran by the FBI, not the ATF.

I had a delay of a few hours once, but they didn't give any explanation. I suspect that it was just further checking because of a bad guy with the same name as me. I know there is a guy in my state with the same name who is a real POS.

In most states your address must be correct or it is a ticket..

In FL you also can not have more than one DL on you at a time. a while back I got pulled over and had a FL and TX license in my wallet. The cop told me it looked bad and he could cite me for it??? Ijust left it in my drawer.

I had the FIsh and Game people come to my workplace once.

I had just moved to the community.  Bought a fishing license.  They didn't know me, but wanted to.

I can understand.  It takes about six months in a place for all the paper work to get sorted out.

I once got a CCW by telling the Sheriff the names of three local people who would tell him I was "a good ol' boy."  Seriously.  You can't do that in a weekend of living someplace.

I tried to buy a rifle out of state once and was delayed.  It was legal but I wasn't there long enough to wait out the delay.  Never had any other problems.

happened to me for about 3 years before it stopped.  I went to the shop expecting to wait on a lower (i had already waited 3 months for), and meracousley no problems.  very strange

there's a guy with my same first and last name (I have an unusal last name)––apparently quite a criminal record for this guy.  Diff middle name and social, but I ALWAYS get a delay.  My FFL said he never really got a final okay, but the law says they can release after 3 business days (which is actually 5 given the way the government counts days––good forbid you throw a holiday in there too).  Finally just got my concealed handgun license so I don't have to deal with it anymore.

A few years ago I had a family member move to Kansas knowing it would be for just a few months before being reassigned. He wanted to by a new pistol. He got a Kansas state issued ID instead of a DL. No problems getting the new firearm.

were you in the military??? with any type of clearance, they will delay for that.

You are correct, on the form 4473 it states clearly that the ID being used must have the buyers current correct physical address. If the buyer just moved and still has his old states license then the store should not have sold the firearm. As for the delay, as mentioned above it is not an indictment of your record or character, it is not the same thing as a denial, it hapens on average 1 out of every 15-20 gun sales. The store is not told why, so dont give them a hard time about it. The wait is 72hrs, the time begins on the following buisness day. So in the OP's case he was delayed on a Friday so his wait time will begin on Monday and go through Wednesday midnight. So he should be able to pick up his rifle on Thursday. If you know you will be delayed going into a purchase do it on a Monday, that way you can pick it up on Friday. Just a few helpful words from your local gun salesman.

Many years ago, when I was in high school, a guy with my exact name a couple of communities over, died. It was in the obituary section of the newspaper, no details, a last minute entry.
When I walked in the senior lounge that morning, well, it was quite a shock to a few of the girls who had already planned my memorial!

Anyway, a friend in the Justice Department said this was screwing my background checks up.
But the last time I had one run, it was almost instant.

Actually, his chl just may mean shit. In some states, a valid chl will stand in place of the background check. It is that way here in AR, and I'd bet TX qualifies as well.

Everytime I buy something new from my shop I get a delay. I do not know why and the number he gave me to call said they could not tell me. Now that I think about it, I've had some weird clicks in my phone lately too. Oh and lots of black littlebirds. I think they after me for disclosing FEMA camps.

Probably since I always buy on the first its just a backup though.

I found a couple of guns I wanted to buy at two different stores. Bought the first one and got delayed then drove five minutes away to buy the other one and got approved. Now have a CHL and don't have to deal with NICS.

It is not uncommon for gun shops to place you on delay, even if you were approved by NICS.

I get delayed almost every time. ONCE I was able to walk out with it. A couple other times it was a few hours to a day later they called. I usually have to wait the 3 days then go get it.

It might not be uncommon where you live, but it would be very uncommon, as in unheard of, where I live.

What would be the purpose of a gun shop to delay you for no reason?

How would you really know if the shop put you on delay or NICS. After you fill out the 4473, the customer doesn't see the paper work.  You would be surprised how many gun shops are the ones putting the sale on delay. As to why they do it? That I can't answer. I have been told on many occasions to place the sale on delay by the boss. I never asked why.

Because NICS provides an approval number that is written down on the 4473 that anyone can easily see them write down.

I know a lot of gun shop owners, not just as a customer but through other business dealings and I can 100% for sure positively say that none of them would ever delay a sale for some strange reason that only they know about. Why would they not want to collect their money right then but rather delay the person and wait and hope that they come back. Not only is that stupid, it's bad business.

I always thought it took seconds to run your name, its all on computers anyways. Maybe the people at the store slacked off and forgot to run it.

If memory serves me well, at one time in St. Louis city you had to have a letter from your parish priest and list 3 non-relatives for references to even get a purchase permit––forget CCW!

In the county you had to apply in person for a purchase permit at the Sheriffs office in the County Courts building (find parking, pay, walk, wait in line), wait for an approval letter and then return (find parking, pay, walk, wait in line) for the actual permit-to-purchase and pay $10. The permit was good for 30 days.

Now, with the background checks that's all ancient history and as a state resident I can purchase a gun in Springfield if I live in Hannibal.

From another thread, I think you can get an identifying PIN from the FBI(?) for NICS checks if you are having delays. Not for sure on that one.
