just curious to know if anybody has the capability to rebore a block?

I'm here in NJ and well first is there anybody here that can do it "after hours" or "on the side"?

What is the avg cost involved?

The block would b Dodge 318/360 or the venerable Chev 350

plug it into your drill and hone away. maybe read up abit before doing it. I've been doing that on 4-wheelers, dirtbikes and one car (honda) since i've working on stuff. There is a method to it, but if you understand..its not that hard.

He wants to rebore cylinders, not hone them. (Although most shops will hone the cylinders after they rebore it.)

But they are 2 different processes.

lol, ya have fun putting one .030 over with a hone ;)

I believe 8$ a hole is on the cheap side, but could still be found.

been awhile.

seems like when i got within a .0015 of what i was going for (size of pistion and clearence), i would start power honing.  checking every so often with a dial mic
to make sure the bore was consistently even while honing.

$8 a hole seems pretty cheap.

like it's been said, pay me now or pay me later... (tear down to do another rebuild)

That is about right on the honing numbers.  The shop should bore and hone the cylinder for you with your pistons.

Looking for a "discount" bore job is a lesson in FAIL!  You have to have a good foundation to build from. Find some jackleg employee that will use the shops equipment afterhours, and most likely the boss is turning his head so he gets "OJT" on someone elses block that is not paying his shop to do it right.
Too tight, and you will gall the pistons, too lose and it will rattle like a diesel.

I paid a shop $75 to press out a sleeve, bore the new one, bore the cylinder, and press in the new sleeve.

Dropped it off on Thursday, picked up the next day.

WAS a two week waiting list, But Pizza for the shop gets you to the head of the line
