Sure saw a lot of them backin the early 80's before the crash. That was the stupidest thing I saw a savvy man do. Imagine trying to smuggle enough coke into the country to keep a car manufacturer afloat. Think ahead.... Um, I made payroll this month. Time for another shipment and hope I dont' get caught? |

He wasn't a businessman, plain and simple. He was an engineer, and it's tragic that the car that bears his name was such a failure, while others he was responsible for have become icons and are rarely credited to him. RIP John Z. Delorean, father of the DMC, but more importantly, the man behind the original Pontiac GTO. |
Heard this rumor also. |
Story has it that Fred Smith, founder of FedEx, was so low on cash that he couldn't make payroll and was about to go under soon after start up. He took all the company's remaining cash ($80k or so) to Las Vegas where he made enough money to make his payroll and keep the company afloat for another month. After that, the company generated enough cash flow to keep going and finally became sucessful. |
