just finished watching the first two seasons of Dexter. I really like this show. I highly recommend it. |
|
I've never seen the show, but heard that it's good.
As a side note: A while back I read one of those articles on Yahoo! about quirky little facts. This particular article was about the most popular shows among self-described liberals and conservatives. Dexter was one of the tops for liberals. Any idea why? |

The premise of a sociopathic serial killer as a sympathetic character, let alone hero, who has to lie constantly to maintain his cover probably rubs conservatives the wrong way. Democrats think such behavior is Presidential timbre. |

Again, having never seen the show, my understanding was that he only killed bad guys. Kinda like The Boondock Saints, but without the Irishmen. Vigilanteism doesn't seem like something liberals would generally endorse. |

Probably because it is about an individual who is emotionaly incapable of realizing he is doing wrong. Kinda validates their illusion that it isn't the criminals fault. Underlying theme of justified vigilante execution of murderers doesn't seem to jive with their views either. You pretty much cheer the guy on the whole show. He is serving justice like a motherfucker. |

Vigilanteism doesn't seem like something liberals would generally endorse. You just need to watch it. You look at the flagrant lying of Bill Clinton, Al Gore, John Edwards, Anthony Weiner and tell me how Dexter Morgan's any different. Dexter just has a sick need to kill his father sublimated toward other killers. Dexter has to constantly lie to cover up who he he really is, just like the Democrats' favorite pols. |

But there's a difference between lying about being a philanderer or to peddle some snake-oil political cause and lying to keep people from figuring out that you're taking out society's trash. |

Quoted: On second thought my theory doesn't work out. Because if they like the premise that a murderer can't help himself and should be spared they should also have a problem that dexter is killing other murderers who should also be spared. Of course that would require liberals to use logic and we all know how good they are at doing that. Quoted: Quoted: I've never seen the show, but heard that it's good. Maybe it is just the fact that liberals have very few morals and they like the idea of killing the enemy even though they would never admit it. They already want to silence your speech. In history it is proven the next step after outlawing speech is killing dissent. I hate liberals and wish them dead because I wish all thieves dead but I certainly wouldn't pull the trigger on someone for disagreeing with me. I honestly think many liberals would if they knew they would get away with it. Perhaps they are infatuated with the show because his murdering wants are a dark secret and they fell people should die sometimes but have their head so far up the ass of political correctness that watching a show is the only way to express it. |

I'd guess it's more the fact that it shows on Showtime, and Showtime ain't exactly known for their non-left leaning programming. |
