Last night, a friend told me a story he heard ("a friend of a friend says . . . ") that President Franklin Delano Roosevelt did not die from a stroke as commonly reported but shot himself in the head with a handgun. I thought I was pretty up to speed on conspiracy theories, but I never heard this. Is this a common theory? Have you heard this before?

I don't have any credible sources, but I did find this blog page that gathers a lot of similar "friend of a friend" stories regarding FDR's death in one place:
http://lovkap.blogspot.com/2011/04/did-fdr-commit-suicide-or-was-he.html (I'm not endorsing the site or the information, but it's the most complete listing on the topic I found in a quick search.)

Motive? Reasoning? I know it is a desperate act of a depressed person but you would think FDR would want to see the war through.

FDR had had polio, and his condition was noticibly weakening during his 4 terms. That, plus the stresses of the Presidency, could well bring any man down.

Not to mention the fact that he was married to Eleanor . . .

Hmmm, so far, it seems like there is little interest in a dead president that few people alive remember.

Do an image search for FDR at his inaguration and then one for him at Yalta, you can see the physical changes in his health.

Me too. The stress of being President during WWII combined with his health issues is a much more logical explanation for his death.

will never be proved.. in a previous time line FDR refused to use nukes on japan. amerika and the soviets invaded japan. millions of amerikan soldiers died in a period of over 20 years of fighting on the japanese mainland. this eventually resulted in an overthrow of the amerikan government buy a far right wing political movement. dougas mcArthur was granted 'emperator' powers. at that time, enough nuclear weapons, including thermo nukes had been built, both in the us and russia and china to be used in a world devastating war. which was instigated by the 'emperator' after troops were recalled and japan was nuked from orbit, just to make sure. a chain of events then occurred which lead to the apocalypse.

so, they terminated FDR. truman took over and nuked japan. the war ended. no apocalypse.

btw, they terminated JFK because he started WWIII over cuba. and his brother RFK for as yet unknown reasons.

Do you  have an alternative timeline where they figure out BEFORE the election that Obama was a plant, groomed from childhood to become president, ruin the U.S. economy and help establish a unified Islamic state that stretches from Libya to Pakistan?

one will never know the truth. Remember back then the media protected the Pres. Few knew he could not walk.those in the media that knew, kept it under wraps.

A sitting POTUS, in time of war kills himself.  That would never get out, if not to protect the US, then to keep the from giving propaganda ammo to the enemy.

Nope, according to a lot of sources he had Melonoma over his left eye brow that had metastasized, caused a brain tumor that led to a stroke.    If you look at several pictures and newsreels of him you will see it and then in latter ones it's gone.   So it was removed ?   One of the history channels on TV was saying that it was kept secret during the war.  Problem is that his medical records were destroyed....and no autopsy was ever done, no one will ever know the truth.

Shot himself in the head?  Tin foil conspiracy theory.

The truth is that Eleanor choked him out when he silently rolled into the Lincoln bedroom one time and caught her face down in a secretary's muffin basket.
In order to keep peace in the country it was quickly hushed up though.  In her autobiography Eleanor later revealed that she hadn't meant to kill FDR, she only meant to hush him up but since she had the hands of a longshoreman and the strength of a retarded gorilla she accidentally went too far.  Oops!  Needless to say the secretary also had to be killed because she had seen too much, which was a shame because Eleanor thought she was rather fetching, sigh...  At least the roses in a small section of the White House garden grew well that year.
