So Doc tells me my blood sugar is a little high. With my family history of diabetes He is worried about it. He tells me to watch my carb intake, and recomends the south beach diet. So it fucking sucks. I grew up on potatoes for almost every meal come on. Now I am still in phase 1, and I can't have any carbs. This sucks real bad! No potatoes or corn on the cob with my steak. Gimmie a fucking break!!! No bread? Get real. No rice or pasta either. Now I have lost some weight, but I don't know if I can keep this up. What say you. |

Good luck. There are some great "faux" recipes for things like cauliflower potatoes (whipped cauli, with same texture as mashed potatoes). You will be glad in the long run. Good health is the best way to ward off the most likely SHTF scenarios in our lives. (I think living within our financial means is the second.) |

Are you exercising? That does wonders for blood sugar levels. Get your heart rate up to 60-80% of the max (220 minus your age is your max) for 30 minutes, 3 days a week to start. Keeping a healthy blood sugar, cholesterol level and weight will be 1000x easier for you. RF |
then don't fucking do it...geez...

Get real with it. You can A) learn to retool your diet, or B) wait for full blown Type II Diabetes and deal with the consequences of *that*. Choice is yours, pal. I know how hard it is to do. I, too, thought the south beach diet blew. I didn't even try it, there were too many dishes in there that I can't stand or simply could not afford to make. So I modified it to make it more "me". I removed the white components of my diet. No more white rice, white potatoes, white (or "faux wheat") bread, gravy (boy, do I miss gravy), refined sugar of any type, and as little as possible high fructose corn syrup. I now eat more vegetables, meat, fresh fruit, true whole grains and have nearly done away with pre-processed foods entirely. I feel much better. I can hardly stand regular soda or any kind of sweets anymore. Oh, I tried the Atkins diet, but it turned me into a raving asshole after a couple of months, so I quit. |
| You can realistically still eat carbs in the form of veggies. Dense complex carbs like bread, pasta, potatos, and beans are out, but lettuce, corn, onion, carrots, brocc, etc should still be in. They just shouldn't be more than ~30% of your intake at this point. |
Whats so bad about the white stuff? |
