Howdy everyone.
I am wanting to ditch my cable and am looking hard at direct tv. Their choice extra package with an hd dvr, and a standard dvr for my other tv will come out to approx 56$/Month. Its a shade more than what I want to pay but I really like the Direct Everywhere instant movie deal. We watch a lot of red box and if the direct everywhere carries new releases, that will save us $$$ every month. Mu questions to you are as follows. Do you like your direct tv service? What package do you have? Do you use the direct everywhere service? Are they good about adding new releases quickly? Anyway to get the service for cheaper than listed on their website? Thanks |

I'm assuming that is the new customer introductory price you quoted. I had the choice extra HD with 2 DVRs and it was costing about $120 a month. I dropped it in January and went with just Hulu Plus and Netflix. Yes its the new customer pricing. If there was a way for us to watch our favorite tv shows and not have to pay for cable I am all ears. |

Ive had Directv for years.
Got one HD dvr and not sure the package but its $86 a month. No HBO or any of that. I cant do the on demand shit yet cause its not hooked up to the internet. Still debating that one. I was considering going to ATT uverse but, I like the devil I know !! I like them just fine |
| I've had Direct TV for many years. I live in a really rural area and there is no cable option here. That said, while I was in college and when I lived in other areas I had cable. To me, Direct TV is way better than cable, although it's getting pretty pricey. If you're an NFL fan, DTV's Sunday Ticket is the only way you can watch every NFL game. |
|
Have had it for about 7 years, seconad from the bottom package. We have not tried any of the PPV, on demand things.
Even when we got 20 inches of snow this year it worked great, but when the snow started to melt, it somehow messed up the signal. That price would be an introductory price, find out how long it is good for, and the actual price. Then decide if worth it or not. |

It does go up a little bit the 2nd year which is a draw back. |

It costs me $8 a month. Outside of that you can watch many of the shows right on their website. For example Big Bang Theory and How I Met Your Mother. I hook my computer up to the tv and watch them that way. I did miss the last season of Justified because I no longer had DTV but I got by just fine without it. |

I like our direct TV. same here had it for almost 6 yrs we just had our original DVR go out a few mths ago.. Ill give you my customer number and you can save $10/mth for 10 mths (and I also get to save the $100 as well) Like anything DirecTv pricing goes up every so often.. I wish the their 'contract' price was stable, like cell phones pricing is.. We have only had service outage when we get heavy rains.. Brian |

I use them the instant movie via Internet connection. Movies are from channels you subscribe to. it works out well for us.
Wife was the one who promoted Direct TV. She wanted the NFL Ticket. She is a Hardcore STEELER FAN. Pittsburgh born and raise. I do like the Pandora app they did a few months back. Wife loves it. Spent many weekends just listening to music instead of watching a movie. GET the whole home network addition . Allows you to watch DVR on any connected Direct TV Receiver. It adds $3.00 or $5.00 to the bill. Direct works for us mainly because of the NFL Ticket |

I fucking hate DTV. I can't wait to get out of this fucking contract. Can you explain why? The service is interrupted in a light rain, customer service sucks, and it costs $80 a month for the basic package. Not to mention they rape you if you try to get out of the contract. My roommate signed up for it, and I could kick his ass for it because he put my name on the account too. |

Only time I did was when the dish was covered in snow a couple years ago. |

Do you like your direct tv service? Yes, overall. What package do you have? Not sure exactly what we have, I just know we have 3 rooms of regular receivers and one HD DVR, and a frigload of channels.
Do you use the direct everywhere service? Are they good about adding new releases quickly?
Never heard of it. Anyway to get the service for cheaper than listed on their website?
Good question. I pay the internet and phone bill, so I wouldn't know. Thanks
No problem. |

After they did I have had perfect signal except for the snow covered morning. Not all installers are created equal. |

There's a fee for everything and it takes an hour of holding to accomplish anything. |

This is where you'll get the answers you seek.
http://www.satelliteguys.us/forums/11-The-DIRECTV-Forum I'm a Dish sub and recommend you consider Dish too. |

Yeah, I'd rather not be out on a ladder continuously from November to April. The sun melts the snow off quick enough. That assumes the temp is above -20 F though. It may snow here once a year. Maybe. The pam trick works.

It is a trade off. I felt I was wasting way too much time watching tv. That is part of the reason I dropped DirecTV. Many days with Hulu, Netflix, and Amazon there is nothing new on. It makes me go do something else which is a good thing. If I had a lot of free time and didn't mind a $100 a month tv bill, I would go back to DirecTV over anything else. If you do sign up for it tell them you want 2 HD DVRs, not just one and a standard receiver. I believe their new equipment can be shared across the house but I would still push for two DVRs. I had to pay for the second one but the install for it was free and done at the same time they hooked everything else up. |

I had Charter cable and internet for years and it was great but I moved to the boonies and now have Dish for tv and Viasat for internet. After the first year with Dish I switched to a lower plan without tne large number of channels I don't watch. I pay $50+ a month. That is with HD and DVR.
I used to have Direct TV around 1998 but I had a problem and the customer service was in India so I ditched it when Raj gave me the runaround. |
| I've had DTV for 12 years and am satisfied with it. My internet is through Crimecast, and they are incompetent thieves. My DVR crapped out last Monday, and a DTV tech came out on Friday, checked out the entire system and set up my replacement DVR, all in about an hour and a half. It took three days of telephone calls to Comcast to get my replacement modem set up and working, and the tehc who was supposed to come last Wednesday, never even showed up. I'm thinking of dropping HBo to save a few bucks, but I will definitely not be subscribing to tv through Comcast. |

Check for over the air channel availability in your area. You can buy an antenna and pickup an HD signal over the air for free(you can even record these with a computer and proper card). Not nearly as many channels, but ive adjusted my viewing accordingly. Lots of channels stream their shows on the internet anywhere from 1 week to 1 month after they air on cable. You can also pickup a streaming service like netflix, hulu, etc. if that interests you.
If you can afford cable or DTV then go for it. If you need to save some money, internet and an antenna (with a little more leg work) can get you pretty close for a fraction of the cost. |
|
I've been a subscriber for about two years now. I switched from cable because my local cable company has a crappy hi-def feed. They overly compress their signal resulting in many digital artifacts. The hi-def on Direct TV is outstanding.
After my system was installed I had a lot of reception problems. I called back DirectTV and they sent the installer back out. He gave me his cell phone number and told me to call him directly if I had any problems. I had to call him out about half a dozen times until they figured out what was wrong, which was a faulty brace on the dish assembly. Heck, he came out and went up on my roof when it was snowing out, which is way above the call as far as I am concerned. |
