Having read various threads here it has me wondering the overall opinion in this case.

A young man joins the Military and in the process of performing his duties he gets injured.

He files a claim with the VA and after 7 years they finally rate him at only 20%.  He has been told numerous
times he should be rated more but he never complained enough, so he takes what they give and moves on.

Now This guy lives in constant pain, and can no longer do the job he was trained to do.
So he takes his own money and re-trains himself and slowly climbs the ladder in his new career.

He now can no longer do the things he used to be able to do and has to now Pay others
shovel snow, do repair work on his house etc (because he cannot do to his injuries).

So many times the pain is so bad it's all he can do just to face another day, but he
goes on working full time, and praying that today is a better day than yesterday was.

Now a middle aged man, He lives with the fact  that this will only get worse for him (as he ages more).

Does he deserve his VA Disability Check?

If he's entitled to insurance money, then yes.  Then again, "civis" (as you call 'em) don't put their lives on the line everyday to protect our Country and Freedom.

No one said life is easy and he should be glad he is still able to work full time.

I will stay out of the debate if he deserves a check or not

Who has told you, Mr Harry, you should be rated higher?

I thought VA determines that?

What are you getting 20% for?

Just spoke with a guy (H2S tech on one of the locations I was working on) that was kinda exited he was finally getting cleared for 50 or 60% disability.    I figured PTSD, and asked him.    He said no, he was shot through the chest in Iraq.   Guy was a medic in the Army.    Surprised the hell out of me that someone that actually got shot had to wait years, but some people with PTSD seem to get the checks quick.

Some due.    Depends on the job.

I vote yes.  But I am biased as I am rated disabled but I do not get a monthly check. I more or less deal with the pain and continue to work 80 plus hours a week. I was off for four months recovering from the injury and surgery. I have a pharmacy in my medicine cabinet that helps me make it through the day.

in the process of performing his duties he gets injured.

The problem here is that doesn't always mean what many here think it means.

Getting mugged in the wrong part of town after a night of drinking can be considered a line of duty injury.

I think the definition is getting a bit stricter, but I have seen more than a few guys get medical retirements from injuries that had nothing to do with their day to day military duties, and in some instances, they were directly responsible for their injury.

I think this nation has a moral obligation to compensate veterans for service-related injuries and disabilities. You put your ass on the line in defense of this country on in furtherance of its foreign policy goals, you should know that this country will spare no expense to make you whole if you are injured. Period. Full stop.

I think this nation has no moral obligation to provide compensation for individuals disabled in private employment or due to their own carelessness, negligence, or simple bad luck. Let the tort system work out that stuff.

For this example lets just say he got injured while doing his job.

Yes, the veteran should receive their disability compensation.

Too many variables.  Some deserve it, a lot don't.  Like that clown that was banned a few days ago who posted his disability claim all over the Internet, including 30% for fucking dandruff (how the fuck), in addition to PTSD, anxiety, panic disorder, etc.
