Um, that power line runs around 13,800 volts.
VICKSBURG, MS (Mississippi News Now) -
A man died after illegally tapping into power lines in Vicksburg, causing a large grass fire. According to Vicksburg Fire Chief Craig Dancyzk, firefighters responded to a grass fire call at 3:00 p.m. on Friday. While putting out the fire, firefighters found the body of a 52-year-old man. After further investigation, the fire department discovered that the man was illegally tying into one of the power lines to send electricity to his home. He was tying into a high voltage line in order to get free electricity to his home. He had wires on the ground and was climbing up a pole them when he was electrocuted. This caused the lines on the ground to catch fire. Fire fighters say it was a "large scale fire" but right now, it is unclear exactly how many acres burned or how much damage was sustained. Like Africa where they all tried to get free gas from a tanker

Dude should have paid attention in science.
Just build a barn or out building under the lines and run copper wire up and back under the roof. |

Stupid is as stupid does.....
Life is like a melted box of chocolates |

220v is bad enough, anything that ends with kv is way beyond "oh hell no"

I bet he was not even wearing his OSHA required arc-flash protective clothing.

I bet he was shocked at how things turned out...................

Probably tried to tap the 13,800vac lines before the transformer.
Fucking idiot. |

This kind of thing is how a buddy of mine was killed in HS. He was actually a good kid, but it was his drunk ass, dipshit older brother who put him up to it. Older brother had acquired a residential transformer and wanted to tap the high voltage so he could steal power for his ratty ass trailer on the lake. He was on an aluminum extension ladder. Contact path was hand to his knees. Red was a great guy. Great sense of humor. He used to keep my brother an I in stitches. His only real fault was having faith in his worthless brother.

Like they wouldn't find that.
Hell, I would not know where to start if I were to do that. I guess you can google everything. I had some work done at my first house years ago (panel swap) and he told me on weekends he has something he made up to bypass the meter on the weekends. I guess he pulls the meter and puts something else in he rigged up. Now with the smart meters he probably can't do that anymore. |

it's not the voltage that kills you, it's the dearth of brain cells.

He was amped up to get free electricity, but was grounded in his efforts.

wow. "what is a transformer?"
i bet that 14000V would make your appliances run fast. |

That's what he died trying to do. Are you looking to be as smart as firestarter was? View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes |

All sorts that's for sure. I heard about a customer who would use a fishing rod to close his cutout, after it was opened for non pay.

He was not the first to try that. Some stoner did the same thing here a few years back, he had a grow house and was trying to get free electricity, he got fried instead.

An electrical engineer I used to know once worked in south Louisiana for the power company.
He said that the Cajuns would drill a hole through the wall and the back of the meter and stick a little piece of wood in the little rotating wheel to stop it from turning. Sounds like a good way to kill yourself and of course the meter reader caught them. Also, a volunteer fire fighter told me once that when they arrived at a house fire, they normally cut the little security tab and pull the meter to kill power to the house so they don't spray water on energized stuff. One nice house they pulled the meter on, they noticed that the outside air condenser condenser unit kept running. Turned out the guy was an electrician and had jumped his A/C around the meter. |

Watt a way to go. Not very bright of him... on second thought, probably was pretty bright.
