Grandma was born in the 1890s.
Fruit juice was always served as a treat in small amounts, around 6 - 8 ounces.
She would give me orange juice and cream or half and half for breakfast sometimes, as a kid, when I would visit. If she gave me that it was with buttered toast and nothing else. She would squeeze the oranges by hand on one of those old school juicers. It had lots of pulp. The splash of cream only added body, not chunks. I’m talking less cream than in a creamer cup.
An Orange Whip (Orange Julius) is simply orange juice (I use undiluted frozen concentrate scooped from the can), milk, sweetener (powdered sugar works best) and vanilla blended smooth. I make them from time to time. They make me think of breakfast with my grandmother.
