Do you ever just enjoy sitting in a quiet room, with nothing on, besides a light, maybe.

I find myself wanting to do that more and more lately. Just sitting and thinking to my self. Im not depressed or upset about anything, I just like to sit in peace and quiet and think.

Is this something that becomes more common as you get older?

It just occurred to me as I was doing just this earlier tonight. I thought it was kind of odd at first, but then I just realized that I guess I like to do it to unwind.

Is this odd?

ETA: Another thing I sometimes do, is mute the TV for no reason, just for the peace as well.

I would say shutting your mouth and thinking is very odd for most arfcommers, yes.

sometimes it seems to me the TV is on all the fucking time... when it's actually off, it's eerily quiet... and yes, it's really nice.

Somdays I enjoy quiet, I dont want to hear nothing but the ringing in my ears

Like right now, one light one and I can socialize without saying a word

I like the quite...I get tired of the talking heads on tv....like a bunch of barking chihuahuas.

When I was younger the music was always cranked up.  Now I would rather listen than just hear.

My wife is somewhat the same so our house is often quite.

Quiet...move the e over a bit

I only do that if I'm outside.  If I'm inside I'm either with other people, at the computer, tv, etc.

With the job I have I do this just about every day.

No, I never do that.  If I have nothing I have to be doing, I will read a book, cruise the net, watch a movie or go work out.  Sitting around staring into space is a waste of time.

What is this peace and quiet of which you speak?

As do I, perhaps this is why I appreciate it so much more now.

I do that this time of year around the firepit outside.  Just me, the fire, and relative silence.  It's nice.

No, if I can hear my self thinking it means I'm not being productive.  Silence & doing absolutely nothing, drives me fucking crazy, I'd rather watch paint dry.

No, it isn't odd. In a few more years, you'll find yourself sitting there in silence because you can't remember what the fuck you were doing.

FWIW, I don't watch TV.  I listen to music a ton, but I'm an amateur musician.  I enjoy the peace and solace of music and the written word.

Just slowing down, taking it easy, and not being glued to a TV show schedule is relaxing as-is.

I do this everyday.

This is why I like to hunt. The meat is nice but I just want to sit and watch the sunrise in peace.

It's called meditation where I come from.

Absolutely yes! And in the last six months it has increased and have done just as you have said with both scenarios.

Embracing the quiet - - - very peaceful and somehow rich.

I sit in the dark and link ammo. Does that count?

It's like meditation.  Men are good at it. You just drift of into space for a while with no thoughts in our mind. I can do it for a couple hours if not distracted.

I once unplugged my fridge and my water cooler, in order to make my apartment totally quiet.  I sat quietly for about two hours, and I actually didn't fall asleep.  It was quite peaceful.

When I was a little guy, maybe 4 or 5, we lived in a house with a little stone path going down the side.  It was positioned in such a way that the sun would always shine down the stone path early in the morning (sunrise).  I would go out and sit indian-style on the rocks in the silence of the morning and just enjoy the warmth of the sun.  It was wonderful, and I think about it all the time.  Really the most peaceful time of my life.

I'm 25 and I appreciate peace and quiet.

It's nice to sit and just unwind, drink a beer and relax.

As a serious response, when this is the case and I want to "get away" from noise and all that, I go driving.

When I was a wee tike, I used to sleep in the sunny area of our storm-doors.  Easily top 3 memory of my childhood was waking up with the family dog curled up next to me and the cat purring away happily.

Back when sleeping on the floor was comfortable.

I get my time for reflection out hunting in the woods or fishing in remote locations. If you don't already I suggest giving it a try.

I've always found it incredibly relaxing to be in a dark (or at least mostly dark room) with nothing going except the sound of a fan. For some reason, that is relaxing as hell.

I also find it relaxing to be out in the woods alone, with nothing but the sound of nature as my companion.

Granted, I don't like that sort of thing for an extended period of time. But it is kinda nice to do something like that every once and a while just to get away from all the things that give us stress. Without a little quiet time here and there, most of us would probably go insane.

Yes I do, and I do enjoy it. And for this reason, I like fishing better, usually fairer weather to do so.

I wish I could.  I  can't even sit down and watch TV.

I call it "Surveying my kingdom".  It usually involves sitting on the patio at my house or by the waterfront at my parents cottage with a cup of coffee and or a cigar and maybe some peanuts in the shell and doing nothing but looking off into the distance and taking time to notice the things that are typically missed in the noise and confusion of everyday life.  With a wife and kids I don't get to do it as often as I would like but it sure is a treat when I can.

Not unless im having a cigar or pipe. I commute 2 hours a day and use that as quiet time to think.

We spend our day being constantly bombarded with some form of stimulation. It is nice to turn all of that off and just relax, take some time and sort things out.
