Got a friend trying to convince me to watch the new season of this show as it premieres tomorrow night on BBC America.
To be clear, I know next to nothing about the series aside from it being science fiction, it's British, and it's been running a LONG time. Should I devote the time to watching it, and will I have trouble understanding it due to not having seen it before? What say the hive? |

School me on whether I should devote the time to watching it, and whether I will have trouble understanding it. My 10 year old and under kids like it. |

It is the longest running sci fi show EVER. Been on the air, off and on, since 1963. About a alien, looks human, that travels through time and space, doing good deeds. Like saving the universe. Well, that helps with the background, but is it worth watching? (At least it won't get network fucked like Firefly) |

There are some incarnations I liked better than others (Pertwee and Baker are my favourites). Some I couldn't really get into. Watch an episode. It won't take that long and if you don't like it you'll know and never have to waste another minute

ETA: The chick looks hot, so that helped in my decision. |

The old shows were pretty cheesy, but the new episodes have MUCH better stories and effects. Damn good. You will be picking up with a new Doctor (they kept the series going for so long by having him transform into a new guy from time to time. He is about 900 years old, so goes through a lot of bodies. This will be number 11.), so it will be like a new beginning. Good time to start watching, actually. And SyFy DID fuck Dr. Who. They stopped carrying it. Need more programming room for wrasslin', ghost shit and the rubber monster movie of the week.

I like most of the new Dr. Who episodes, some are really good, some suck (esp the ones with the stupid robots that look like garbage cans). The blonde chicky snack in the first season or two certainly helps the watchability.
Torchwood is a spin-off. It's not as good IMHO. For Brit Sci Fi, you should check out Survivors. Post-apocalyptic scenario. I like both the original and the remake. Red Dwarf also rocks. |

Tennant displaced Baker as my all time favorite Doctor. Just barely, but damn he has been awesome in the role and I'm disappointed he's gone. I'm struggling to like the new guy. Matt SMith (new guy) did an amazing job on the last 2 episodes. I'm very excited to see more. |

Yes, but it already started in the UK on the real BBC. As I get BBCA-HD, I just wait for them to air here. |
