Fleas or skin allergies?
For the fleas one of the many pills, bomb your house, vacuum vacuum vacuum, bomb it again. Skin allergies may require a change in diet. Have you looked into something like Dinovite? It’s supposed to help with skin allergies. |

This You have flea eggs in your carpet/rugs furniture etc. you MUST vacuum EVERY DAY until the fleas are gone. Treat the dog, the yard, the house and vacuum. The vibration of the vacuum cleaner stimulates the eggs to hatch. You vacuum the eggs and larvae and ditch the bag in the trash every day until fleas are gone. |

I have a border collie who gets very itchy when given certain foods, he gets lamb and rice dog food now. He is also on monthly pills, not sure which one.
I treat my yard with pyrethrin spray mixed to the correct levels, bought it on amazon as concentrate for termites. Lots of talk about doing it on here, so it should be an easy search. Treat the dog, spray the yard, spray the house etc. If they are not jumping on you as you walk around in the house its probably pretty clear, same with the yard. I had a lab mix years ago that developed allergies from a flee infestation, even when the fleas where gone he was messed up. Only thing that helped was prednisone, but that was short term. |

Quoted: You took your dog to a vet with a flea infestation and the vet told you a one time pill and shampoo would solve the problem? The vet didn't recommend treating your house or an ongoing preventative flea product to use on the dog? If the above is true, when you get this sorted out, I recommend finding a different vet and to get your dog checked for heart worms. Fleas are where they come from. View Quote Yep. Vet gave you bad advice. Unfortunately, the pupae stage of the flea life-cycle is pretty much impervious to anything short of incineration so until they all hatch, you're going to have a near constant infestation. Even as the chemicals on your dog and properly are killing them off. For immediate relief for the dog, give it a bath in water + Dawn dish soap. The Dawn will reduce the surface tension so the fleas get properly drowned. The bath needs to be full enough to nearly submerge the dog. Probably good to have 2 people. You'll have to hold the dog as much underwater as you can except (obviously) for mouth, eyes and nose for 2 to 3 min to drown all the fleas while using a flea comb to get the ones that will be crawling up the dog's neck and head to stay above the water. You'll also see all the dry blood flakes in the water as they'll look like tiny drops of red food-coloring. For the house (and probably exterior too) you'll need to use a multi-prong approach. Interior: start with a full-on bombing using something like CB80. Everyone and all pets will have to be out of the house for 2 to 3 hours. Then hit all the cracks and crevices with a combination of knockdown agent like Termidor along with an IGR like Precore. Be thorough and plan on re-treating at least every 30 days for the next 3 months. For exterior, use the same stuff as inside except do a full spray along the entire foundation 16" up and out from the base of the foundation. Pay special attention to gaps around doors and windows. If you live in a warm climate with sandy soil, you may need to coat the whole yard anywhere near where the dog can go. Also, are you and your family noticing bug bites around your ankles? Very bad infestations will have fleas biting people along with pets. |

Quoted: She's a Collie, border Collie mix, used to run free range here before we took her in. I'm talking a running dog, there are about 1,000 acres around here she was free to run on . . . . now, she will not go out of the house. No joke, she will not leave the AC! All she does is bite and chew herself, scratch all night and day long. We just can't figure how a free running dog that lived in the wild will not go out side anymore. The other night my wife put a leash on her and had to drag her out side to go do her business. The dog is 47 pounds and about 2 years old. The most powerful little dog I've ever seen. When she lays down and does her "Dead Dog Act" you cannot move her. My cousin has a John Deere 4 wheel tractor and I bet this dog can out pull it! Help!!! View Quote So - inside, vacuum....vacuum...vacuum. It'll actually knock down the flea population pretty well. Eggs and larvae need to be vacuumed up. Plan on doing it daily, or a couple of times a day. Lay down diatomaceous earth in the carpeting, it'll get vacuumed up a bit but it'll still help control the population. Flea comb the dog, couple of times a day. Regular bath will help too, shampoo and water will kill the fleas on her. Outside, I'd spray with a pyrethrin based area spray. Biggest issue with fleas is they get concentrated in areas the dog is in, and then the population skyrockets. I'm not a fan of collars, systemic poisons, dips, sprays, etc. Lots of lymphoma, hemangiosarcoma, etc out there in dogs, and I'm fairly certain poisons are a causative factor. |

Permithrin/Pyrethrins aren't having an effect on fleas around here.
I had to use a product with imidacloprid on our work dog. We have a commercial nursery and we have a 60 gallon commercial nursery sprayer and mixed up a max dose of Talstar P and bombed the shit out of everything. And then I bombed everything again with Advion and Adept IGR. I also sprayed Advion inside our building (READ THE LABEL). It's kept them at bay for the last 30 days, but one of my employees were complaining they got bit by fleas again working on the edge of the property this week. So if your dog roams, she's just gonna keep bringing them back to you unless you treat her ass directly and often. |

If it is fleas and not a skin issue you will see her stomach and under her arms covered in brown flea shit.
There is no real solution the I ever found to work. Flea powder on the carpeting and daily vacuum cleaning with a good vacuum Thank God we don't have them in Phoenix, it is so hot and dry that the larval stage withers and dies. |

We uses a heartworm/flea pill from the vet called Trifexis and it really works good, the Diatomaceous Earth worked into the carpet bedding etc then vacuum up helps to get them out of the house. For the yard try some permethrin you can spray it around the perimeter of the house and it will kill fleas and ticks and lots of other critters to so don't over do it.

You’ll probably need to different meds. I don’t recall which flea meds I was giving my dog, but it only lasted a short time. The vet then gave me comfortis. Dog gets the second med after two weeks from the first. So basically each meds is given once a month just two weeks apart so the dogs gets flea meds every two weeks. Did the trick. After two months I stopped both and went back to just one e dry thirty days. Ask your vet.

Like others have said, just treating your pup is only half the battle. You need to treat the inside and outside of your house to get a handle on the problem. Then treat a second time after 7 days (I think)... or is it 14 days? It should say on the product you use. |

It's not just a magic pill or shampoo and you're done.
You have to spray the ENTIRE yard. Multiple times. Under all the bushes, on and under lawn furniture, every square inch. If your dog has fleas then it's picking them up from somewhere. Treat your house. Multiple times. Daily for a week, then every 2-3 days for a month. It takes 30 days to break the egg cycle. Vacuum daily and discard the bags. Get in all the corners, baseboard cracks, everywhere. Flea eggs can survive many spray treatments intact. You will need to bathe the dog daily or at least every other day with consumer dip and weekly with pro level stuff. For five weeks. Get something like Comboguard or Bravecto for the doggo. Add Frontline or Advantix II topically. You're in for a long battle if it's an infestation like that. |

I use this: Filled with this. That bucket makes 30 gallons which is enough to very thoroughly do 3 acres as well as house foundation. Stuff kills everything - ticks, fleas, spiders, ants, you name it. The longer it's without rain after you apply it, the more time it has to work. No rain for 5-7 days after application is ideal. I do Spring when the bugs all first start emerging, right before July 4th for my party, then late Summer. |
