Close...he's a large yorkie. We dropped him off at the vet. It looks like it is his pancreas again. Poor little guy has been through the ringer. |

OK, got a call from the vet. Dudley's pancreatic enzymes are slightly elevated, so he is on some IV medication to calm his pancreas back down. They said he is doing better, getting rehydrated as well. They are going to check his kidneys and other tests while he is in there, so we should have a better picture of how he's doing later in the day. Poor little guy. He is just pathetic. My vet is a Purdue grad and adjunct faculty member, and he's a good friend of mine. He's expensive, but I don't think there's anyone better. Please keep Dudley in your prayers, and we'll report back later. Thanks, QS and MarianLibrarian |
| Our prayers are with him for sure and you too. Best wishes. hinking.gif |

Man does this one hit home. My wife and I just buried our Cocker Spaniel of 14.5 years last Saturday. She was suffering from kidney failure and a host of other ailments. We miss her a lot. Prayers to you guys and I hope everything works out OK. I hate losing pets! It seems more difficult burying them than relatives at times. |

Is your friend a specialist? If not, he might want to refer the dog to one, because the fluid accumulation sounds bad. It sounds like he is in good hands, however, and his owner definitely cares about him He I'll keep my fingers crossed for him. |
My vet is a friend, and a very up-to-date Purdue alumni. He doesn't hesitate to refer me to Purdue's Small Animal Clinic if he thinks it's necessary, and he told me he doesn't think it's necessary yet. He said the fluid accumulation can be taken care of with diuretics, but we have to get his pancreas under control first. I love the little guy, and I'll be damned if I don't give him every chance he can possibly have. |

We're taking him to the Purdue small animal emergency clinic. He seemed like he was doing better but when they tried to feed him this morning he threw up again. They gave him barium and x-rayed him, and there is some kind of obstruction mostly blocking his esophagus. It appears to be some kind of mass by his heart. |
damn I hate to hear that.. keep us up to date QS |
| This works for dehydrated dogs. Low sodium chicken soup, mix 50/50 with baby electrolyte water, the kind they give kids for diarhea. Give a small amount (leaves the dog thirsty) offer more in about an hour, continue about every hour. This is also a good way to keep your dog alive if for some reason they get parvo. Keep dog warm and good luck. |

We just got back from dropping him off at Purdue. They are going to take more x-rays and possibly endoscope him in the morning, because they are thinking it may be a foreign object, like a piece of rawhide or something stuck in his throat. Please God that that's what it is, because the other alternative is worse. If it is, he will have to have it surgically removed then have a feeding tube put in his side so he doesn't have to swallow for about four weeks. Look for some stuff on the EE soon. This is going to cost a lot of money. I just hated to leave him, but they have a doctor in the ICU 24 hours, so he won't be alone tonight. |
