Why do videos of old (and some modern) tracer fire from airplanes look like the round is unstable? The light from the tracer is "squiggly". I assume this is due to vibration of the camera but that's just my assumption. Today though I was trying out the game war thunder for the first time and I noticed they replicated that. Even when being shot at with it, the incoming rounds to you look "squiggly" and I thought if that is an accurate representation, my camera theory is out the window.

what you are seeing is vibration shaking the camera real tracers fly smooth, and you can see gravity arching them down. ![]() 50 CAL FIRING TRACERS ![]() Helicopter Minigun in Action Firing Shooting Training Video Chopper Gunships Dillon M134 Gatling Gun ![]() KNOB CREEK night shoot MINIGUN, TRACERS, EXPLOSIVE AMMO ![]() Mini Gun at Knob Creek Range |

So a game where the effect is depicted even as an incoming round from the perspective of the stationary target is just incorrect? Quoted:

Camera vibration.
In gun cameras it is vibration from both the guns and from other sources (engine and such). |

Camera vibration. Yes. Incorrect. Bullets (and light cannon rounds) were about as "non squiggly" in their flight path in WW2 as they are today. Any game designer who incorporated this effect as you state, because they thought it was anything other than camera shake, is, in fact, a retard. |

Games can be fun, but always remember, they have little to do with reality. |
