Investigation ongoing in the shooting death of a state trooper's wife in East Norriton

EAST NORRITON — The Montgomery County Coroner will not be available for comment until Monday morning regarding the death of Joanne Miller, the pregnant wife of a Pennsylvania state trooper who was fatally wounded when she was shot in a home on the Stoney Creek Road. However, a report from NBC10 indicates that the autopsy will be performed on Saturday.

The incident occurred around 2:30 p.m. Friday, March 8.

East Norriton Township police responded to the scene at 2:55 p.m. and found Miller inside the residence, according to a press release issued by Montgomery County First Assistant District Attorney Kevin R. Steele.

When they arrived, they found a pregnant woman who had been shot in the head. According to Steele, a handgun inside the home somehow went off, striking Miller in the head. "There is some indication at this point that it was an accidental discharge of the gun," Steele said.

Steele said Joseph Miller has been cooperating in the investigation which he called "a shooting incident." No charges have been filed.

Officials say the gun involved was not the trooper's service weapon.
