I had a question that I posed about where to find a specific kind of barrel that I posted in the AR Discussions and also in the Rifles, Uppers, Lowers, Barrels and more sections simultaneously.  I posted it in both places, hoping to get more input.  It didn't take long to get one locked.

I'm not bitter, but I do have a question about the rationale behind locking duplicate posts.

As I look around at the multitude of threads in the different sections of AR15.com I see what I think are some posts of limited usefulness, especially in the General Discussion area.  Now I understand that what is useful to me may be different that what is useful to others, however, I don't understand what the reason for a lock such as the one I just received.

Again, I am not bitter, but I would like to understand the rationale behind locking duplicate threads.

Thank you.

As I understand it, that would be a "multi-post". A dupe thread is where some poor bastard posts something he finds interesting or of possible use to others, that has been posted by someone else recently. There are members here (collectively known as the "Dupe Police") who search endlessly for duplicate topics so they can shit in the second thread. Or third thread, or whatever # thread. They are closely allied with, and sometimes members of the spelling and grammar nazi's.
No telling how many useful or enlightening threads have been killed in the womb (aborted, as it were) out of fear that some dipshit who can speel betr will come along and hold an E-inquisition on the offender.

Personally, I have a fear of the "Comma Commies", as I really like to use way too many commas.

when they(mods) lock the thread, they could at least post a link!

This coming from a guy who signed back up as soon as his old account was locked.

We do not permit cross posting.  You are welcome to post your discussion topic in the most relevant forum but not multiple forums.  If we permitted everyone to post the same thread across the board, the forums would become unnecessarily cluttered with redundant threads.  Additionally, it helps consolidate the feedback offered.  This will help when someone later searches for your topic.

If you ever post a thread that receives little or no activity, you are welcome to have it moved to another forum - just contact the moderator for that area.  We're always glad to help.
