Looking at possibly retiring my well worn Fenix LD10. It's starting to act up and I just broke the pocket clip which is $20 shipped from Fenix.

What would be a good quality replacement?  AA Batteries, a pocket clip, as well as size being on the small side are all must haves. I'm not a lumen nazi and I don't frequent all the arfcom's of flashlights.

Just looking for good quality, affordability, and durability.

I went smaller, AAA. So much nicer for EDC. It's a MARATAC AAA they do have a AA model. Very bright in a couple cool finishes.

Fenix LD09

I had one and gave it as a gift, it was a really good light IMO.  I still have several LD10's, I actually think the LD09 was a bit smaller, and good beam quality.

I like Streamlight stuff too, if you want to try something not from Fenix.  And in all fairness Fenix has had some issues too.  Some of mine don't seem to like sub-zero temperatures.

I have a Maratac AA from a few years ago, beam is flickery, general build quality was not up to Fenix standards.  Maybe they are better now, but I won't be back.

If you drop the AA battery requirement, you will vastly increase your options that span from tiny AAA flashlights to 18650 lights that are barely any bigger than some AA lights.

4Sevens Mini MA.  I don't have one, but I do EDC the Mini MLR2.  It's not a whiz-bang tactical light (twisty UI), but it is small enough to EDC without realizing it's there with a superb range of light output for 99% of what you want a light to do.

I have that requirement because you can find AA batts anywhere, especially at my work. You can also find AAA next to them generally, so I'm less form on the AA than I am on the form factor being decently small and having a pocket clip (I guess they all have one nowadays though).

So, let's say I just want a good quality, affordable, EDC light powered by AA, AAA, or similar, what would you recommend?

I do like the look of the Plus for sure. Where's the best place to pick one up? Any Arfcom dealers?

Eta: eh, just saw it doesn't have a clicky tail cap. I guess that's a requirement then...

I like these, made in the USA and has lots of options.  I have a AAA version in a high CRI.  Not freaky bright but a very useful light/beam.

I have a titanium Maratac AAA that is pure awesome. Kind of pricy though.

I know you said AA, but my other AAA recommendation is the ThruNite ti3

http://www.amazon.com/ThruNite-Ti3-Max120-Lumens-Flashlight/dp/B00LUO028U/ref=sr_1_1?s=hi&ie=UTF8&qid=1452316802&sr=1-1&keywords=thrunite+ti3

Great value in specs to dollars. Simply blows away the Streamlight Microstream, which is also another great light.

If a clicky tail cap is a requirement, you may have to just stick with Fenix.

The 2015 version of the LD09 does look pretty good. It can even take AA or 14500 batteries.

My EDC flashlight is a Fenix LD12. Very nice for the money, and runs on a single AA battery. Good 'spacing' of output: 3, 30, 65, 125 lumens. Strobe, and SOS functions, as well. I have bigger and MUCH brighter flashlights, but 95% of what I need a flashlight for can be handled by the little LD12.

You cannot go wrong with the Fenix or Streamlight lines. Just look around on Amazon for the one that suits your needs in price point and size. It will vary from person to person. I have had excellent luck with each brands myself in varying sizes and lumens

I like my AAA Pelican 1920.  I carry it daily.  I did have to send the original unit I bought back to the factory two months after I bought  it, but the replacement they sent me has been great.

I think these can be regularly  bought on Amazon for $20 -$22.

The Nitecore MT10A (AA version) or the MT10C (CR123 version). These 2 are the same light with slightly different bodies to accommodate different batteries. Both can make use of IMR rechargeable batteries for ultra high output. The lower levels are plenty of light with decent runtimes, but you do have the option of a mini-sun if needed. Clicky tailcap with a separate side switch for modes so you don't accidentally change modes like you can with single switch designs.

You can get either bundled with their respective IMR batteries and a charger for around $65 on Amazon. They can also run on no rechargeable batteries, but output is lower.

I prefer slightly thicker and larger lights than the AAA lights because it is easier to hold a bigger light when used in conjunction with a handgun. The tiny lights can get lost in your hand.

Here is a overview of the MT10A. I would go with the C version for the reason mentioned in the video about the pocketclip.
