Congratulations to BD1a for getting his Expert Infantryman Badge.

Always too busy being shot at to get it, he finally found some time to earn one of the symbols of a professional soldier.

It is a fitting honor that he earned.

CHEERS!

Congrats BD1a!

I'm jealous, though- my unit has "never had the time."  For about 6 months in Iraq, battalion talked about standing down a couple platoons at a time to take the EIB and then return to the line.  Unfortunately, optempo didn't allow it.

Unfortunately, the wars have made the EIB a forgotten thing.  I wish there was a concerted effort to make time for infantrymen to earn the badge in between deployments.

Congratulations!  I was fortunate enough to get mine while I was still a private E-1.  As soon as I processed through the Repl Det my sqd ldr said, "Welcome to the 82nd - start getting ready for EIB.  We're testing in a week."  I only got to wear it for 1 year before I swapped it out for a CIB though.  I imagine that's the same situation for most Infantrymen these days - earn the badge but no chance wear it.

No matter.  As Tweeter said, it's a mark of a professional Infantryman.  You are a cut above.  Great job.

Great Job!

Got mine in 74 at Bragg.  While enlisted, I was also to get my Master Parachutist Badge before going to flight school.

Both the EIB and Master Blaster wings worked well in my favor over the years.

When I finally retired, I had earned my Master Avaitor Wings.  However, I still regret not being able to get a wreath around my EIB.

in 1987 my unit took all the people who qualified expert onour annual rifle shoot and forced them into the battalion EIB contest.

in my company only 5 people qualified expert. I was one of them. I passed all the hands on tests 100%. I passed the run, the sit ups and then I screwed up the push ups . It was too late to re-test as I received ordered to ETS the following week.

oh well, woulda shoulda coulda. Can I wear a EIB that is only 3/4 long?

BD1a doesn't have a problem scoring with a rifle.  In fact, it's hard for him to not score 40 with a normal qual.

Hey, BD1A, congratulations on earning the mark of a professional Infantryman.  Or as I refer to mine, "the Combat Infantryman's Badge with blank adaptor affixed".

Hell, I was (and still am) proud of mine because it took me 3 attempts to earn it.  I double NO-GO'd shift from a known point 2 years in a row, then earned it 3rd time out with all "GO's".
Yeah, yeah, my math skills weren't so good and I freaked when they clicked that damned timer.  Had I not redeemed myself like that, my PSG would have bagged on me until I ETS'd.......LOL.

CONGRATS, HOOAH!

Good job BD1a! I was always blade-running on day 1 and bolo on day 2.

I'd train the tasks, conditions and standard for a week without a flaw and then screw up the minute I get to the station.

I once saw a guy come in 1 minutes late on the road march and he already had 2 strikes, but the (7th ID) Division Commander granted him a re-do.
They drove him back to the start point and he immediately did it again and passed! He must have REEEEALLY wanted that thing.

They haven't made the CIB a joke, they've made themselves a joke. If you "earn" a CIB it should be worn with pride.

Ranger is saying the people who haven't "earned" their CIB make themselves into a joke.  If someone has REALLY earned their CIB, it's never a joke.*

*See:  All the people who live on a FOB all day and a mortar strikes halfway across the FOB and they put themselves in for a medal.  These are the ones that turn medals into jokes.
