IO have a question regarding switches, I had just put a set of PIAA lights on my rig. They came with a switch that you press to turn on, then press again to turn off. I would really like to replace it with a toggle switch (up for on, down for off). I went looking at autozone, and the only ones they had have two posts to wire into, one for on, and one for off. I was looking at the PIAA switch, and there seems to be 1 wire. Can I make the toggle work?
The harness that the single switch plugs into is 3 wires; 1 ground, 1 12v source, and 1 relay power, if that makes a difference. Thanks |

Thanks I think you dont understand wiring and are asking for trouble or you are not explaining the switches very well. I have never seen a one wire switch |

I replaced that exact same switch (actually replaced the whole PIAA harness) with a Hella switch (OEM toyota lookalike) The replacement switch had 3 plugs on it. One is for 12v in, other is ground, 3rd is power to the trigger portion of the relay. IIRC, the PIAA switch does have 3 conductors going to it, they just use a very thin 3 wire bundle that looks like one wire. All the wires have to carry is enough power to trigger the relay and power the little light in the switch so they can be small gauge wiring. If I remember, I will see if I can find the PIAA switch to double check it. |

You can use a toggle switch to power a relay on and off , however without understanding what relay you have ..... sounds like the kit you have uses the push button to cycle the relay so if you can see the connections on the relay i.e. what are coil contacts and what are the duty contacts - and can test without installing the kit - using a meter , you may be able to get that toggle switch in .

I have the basics. The switch I that came with the kit is powered with 3 wires. One is a ground, one is a 12v source, the other is a 12v power to the relay. Those 3 wires plug into a pigtail for the switch, which leads to one wire to the switch. Press it for on, press again it's off. I want to put it on a toggle. Says to wire 2 wires to it, both powers I'd think? One for off and one for on. |
