Would an EMP burn out my keypad on my electronic safe?

I know I'd probably be toast

My wife's EMP is very reliable.
Carries well too.

I don't know, but I don't trust them.

I went with a mechanical dial.

Mine has a control key for a back up in case the keypad has no power.

Does your electronic pad come off and have a key backup underneath?

Yeah, thought it was a good idea at the time. Fire Safe w/ plastic keypad?

Wrap it in tin foil, you'll probably be alright.

People laugh that I have my cell phone and laptop covered with tin foil. The joke is on them when an EMP hits.

From the way I understand it, EMP probably wouldn't hurt your keypad, or mine. The circuits are too short to build up damaging voltage from EMP. Long line conductors are what would generate strong voltages which would blast your home electronics that are plugged into the wall. Most battery operated things would go on living, until they needed to be recharged.

Nothing wrong with electronic locks, BTW. Every new ATM and bank vault has an electronic lock. Those get opened and closed multiple times a day. Electronic locks are quicker and more reliable. I've seen several dial locks in banks that have "drifted" a couple of numbers.

Mine has a Backup Manual Key

You have to pop off the keypad to get to the key slot

No, but your toaster will start dancing to Jackie Wilson, and eventually eat your hand.

Are you 100% sure?

I have not done it in a long time, but as I recall:
it is just a matter of popping off the keypad,
insert the long backup key
turn key, then turn door handle

I'll check when I get home. I hope you're right! Thanks!
