Looks like they're giving away an EO Tech sight here. Has anyone actually used this one? Is it any good? Free is nice, but if I don't win is it worth the $$$$?

I don't know, the reticle looks off-centered on that one.

That's probably the more desirable of the Eotechs.

The fact that they photoshopped the reticle speaks volumes about EoTechs.

Why does it "speak volumes" about EO Techs? Is there something about photoshop that I don't know about?

The reticle won't reproduce in a photograph. Neither will the red dot on most dot sights. Hence the photoshop job. It's a $500-$600 sight, and a very nice one. I have the 512, which uses AA batteries. The contest one uses a single CR123, which makes it very compact. Go for it.

What the fuck does photoshoping a reticle onto a photo have anything to do with the actual quality of Eo Tech sights?

OP, there is nothing wrong with Eo Tech sights.  I have one(not that model) and love it.  Just like anything else, some people love them and some don't.

I used to have a damn fine photo of the reticle of an EOTech 512. When I get home this afternoon, I'll try to find it.

I have an EoTech SPS 2-0, which is very similar to the one they have listed.

It looks a little stubby, but is built well and functions flawlessly. I love it.

I have 2 of that same model, they're great. Opticsplanet sells them for $495 shipped and you can usually snag a coupon code to get another 5 or 10% off.

Sweet. I like the quick release feature and I hadn't noticed that it takes the CR123 batteries, so it is more compact. I still have my fingers crossed for free, though....

Agreed. I have a 512 also. Took a little while/practice to get used to it. With my ARMS BUIS, it cosighted nicely. They are definitely worth the money.

However, at this point I'd probably get an ACOG after shooting my buddies rifle.

I have an EOTech on one of my rifles. The big problem with it is that it seems to drain batteries after a couple months of not being used. This makes it unsuitable for a home defense sight IMO. Naturally this wouldn’t be a problem for range use and would only be a minor issue for someone using one in a more professional capacity.

That being said, I have a story that explains why EOTechs are so great. A friend wanted me to go to the range with him and his 70 year old father. The father wasn’t a true stranger to firearms but he wasn’t military, wasn’t a hunter or target shooter, and had only fired guns a few times in his life. He also has some eyesight problems. Nothing serious, just stuff that you can expect at 70, or so I gather.

We were shooting at the 50 yard berm. I walked down and put out several 3x5 index cards to use as targets. And, with the EOTech from a standing and unsupported position, he hit all of them on the first shot. Yes, 50 yards isn’t all that far. But a 3x5 card is a fairly small target. That’s what an EOTech does. Not having to worry about sight alignment drastically improves the abilities of a new shooter. And probably any shooter under stress.

I love mine.

If you miss using then EOTech then something is seriously wrong with you.

It's hard to properly photograph an EOTech reticle because of the way its projected.  You don't focus on the reticle; you focus on the target.  If you focus on the reticle, it will look all blurry.

Yep, just put the dot on the target and you're good. I like that feature of the holographic sights. Forgiving with a bad cheek weld.

I've got 5 Eotechs, and would not have bought 2-5 if the first wasn't the schiznitz.

I've got both 512's and 552's.

Apparently some of you guys have never used one, much less seen one.

I paid $600.00 for it annd it's not a 557 it's a 556.....I am not real stealthy on the keyboard. It takes the 123's And I wasn't worried about the batteries it took....Although agood reason would be the cheaper AA's.

The 123's can be had for pretty cheap.  They're a little over a buck a piece at battery junction, IIRC.  My Eotech takes AA, but in retrospect I wish it took 123's because that's what my flashlights take.

I love my 512 I bought used 3 years ago for $290.
I ran one set of regular AA's and they lasted about 9 months and then I bought 16 lithium utlimate AA's for $19 a few year ago.

I've had the same Lithium AA's in it for almost 2 year now, still runs flawless.
I hate when I hear about others having battery issues with their EOTECH's, I wish everyone has had my experience with them.

A buddy of mine has had the 517 for a few years now, he runs lithium's also and his experience has been 100% also.
