Hey everyone,
I have been tasked with collecting a list of companies that can provide an ERP or similar type program(s) for the company I work for. Originally it was supposed to be just inventory/warehouse based but the company decided to expand it by adding in customer relationship, accounting, and asset control. It is actually a good thing they decided to expand it, I pushed a little , because they have just pieced things together in the past and it has caused major issues. I was finally able to convince them to get structured and get organized better.
I was involved in collecting the user requirements for the logistics side of things (shipping, receiving, inventory, shipment orders, etc...). Our IT director is involved with the Project Management and Customer side of things though I have almost a decade of limited experience with that side here as well. So far I have a few listed that from basic research looks like it would fit our needs and then some. Examples: SAP, Sage, Blue Link etc... If anyone has any input on the subject I would be very appreciative of your insight. I am open to suggestions, comments, and experiences. I can try to answer questions as best as I can if more info is needed. I know IT wants to try to be browser based, SQL server compatible, and have the server housed on site at our facility (no cloud based programs). Thanks in advance. |

What industry are you in? How many users are we talking about that will be using it at once? any special considerations? right now we are using Microsoft Dynamics SL good but requires a lot of tweaking to keep it running the way the business wants. We have 5 dedicated IT staff to keeping this running and customised.

We are in the Microbiology and Pharmaceutical industry. We facilitate worldwide third party testing for our clients and also do small distribution contracts. Mainly we are providing data as our primary service. However, we have to provide all of our participants with the medical testing supplies so they can do the testing for us. So we have an inventory of supplies. Our lab has the need for supply use as well for QC and in-house testing. We also have other smaller companies with minimal needs going to be added in. They would have minimal impact to inventory.
We are talking about the possibility of having 30+ users on at once for various different functions between inventory, purchasing, accounting and so on. Our IT Director has said that he would like to find something more off the shelf with minimal customization. Now that was said before the addition of the Proj Mgmt side and Accounting side of things being added on. I believe that we will have three people from our Technical Services branch of IT involved in maintaining this along with once person from our Data Control branch involved. We were looking for something that utilizes barcode scanning for most of the processes but still allows us to have manual input as well. We would like to see flexible reporting in terms of being able to create custom reports for different needs and analysis tools. We are not looking to add our testing data and data storage to this program. We have a custom built program that does that for us currently. |
