Talking about the Gilbert Arenas crap and they show a picture of him "making a gun with his fingers and messing around with teammates" basically trying to paint him as a violent person. The commissioner even released a statement with something to the effect of "the way he is acting makes him not fit for an NBA court."

Really ESPN? Really?

Never!  ESPN is the pinnacle of excellent, unbiased journalism

I have a feeling though that David Stern is going to make an example of Arenas either way.

He brought those guns into Washington D.C., do you think he had the proper paperwork? We may not like D.C.'s gun laws, even though they've been reformed a bit, but they are still the law. He brought those guns into the locker room, which is in defiance of his employer's, read NBA's policy. Further, it appears he took one of those guns an pointed it at a teammate he owed money to. Whether or not it was in jest is still to be determined.

He was told to stop joking about the situation. He was tweeting about it often always making light of the situation he found himself in. Then his lawyers/agents issues a statement that said he realized that the situation he found himself in was no joking matter.

After that statement, which was basically the NBA's attempt to get him to shut up until the investigation was completed, note the NBA kept letting him play for almost a week.  He then, very publicly, joked about it again. He crossed his employer one too many times and now he's sitting out. I only hope he's not getting paid. Stupid should have consequences.

The guy mocked the investigation by making the six gun gesture at his team mates. Once the commissioner saw that photo, it was game over.

I wonder if any ESPN pundit will suggest the NBA should ban it's players from owning guns like that drooling idiot Ditka

said the NFL should do after the Plaxico incident?

He was told not to joke about it. He authorized a statement saying it wasn't a joking matter. The next day, he publicly jokes about the situation. The picture shows his statement was a lie.

There was a push to re-rename the franchise back to the bullets. I heard Tony Kornheiser come out in favor of it on his radio show earlier this year. That is now gone thanks to Gilbert's actions.

I stopped watching ESPN a long time ago, because they love to do a lot of sensationalist reporting.

Watch any of the talk shows, and you will see them talking about how X team and/or X player is the best thing to happen since sliced bread, and then the following week if X team or X player has had a bad game they are the worst things EVAR.  I used to be a big fan of Cold Pizza/First Take, too, but they just ruined it for me when the Rays were making their run at the World Series and all they could talk about was how great the Yankees were––completely ignored what turned out to be one of the greatest playoff runs in the history of baseball; and then early through the '08-'09 NBA season the Trailblazers just went on a tear and they started talking about them going to the NBA Finals until Brandon Roy got hurt and then it was that they were headed to the basement (which, they wound up doing neither).

It wasn't bad early on when it was just relegated to the talk shows, but then I noticed that it started to leak into their "news" reporting.

I will say, though that for Arenas to continue joking about it when he was told not to is stupid and I would expect ESPN to make a big deal out of that, because I don't expect Stern to go easy on him on this point––it could very well mean a ban from the NBA.

Regardless of the current situation, most all the commentators are liberal viewed about guns. Jim Rome is an idiot and I can't even think of the idiot on first take or whatever name they have for it now.

Right now they have three idiot talking heads discussing this topic and the consensus is that they are EXTREMELY ANTI-GUN.

The black commentatot even said that Arenas should be more conscious of the fact that the leading killer of black men of his age is guns.

And then one of the other idiots said that the players are not trying to perpetuate the thug culture but are often legitimately concerned with personal safety but carrying a gun was a terrible idea and you could hear one of the other idiots acknowledging him.

Basically, guns are icky and high profile athletes should not carry them for self protection.  And it makes them look bad when they do.

Wow.  Typical ESPN though.  Pretty much run by Berman who is a self acknowledged New England Democrat.

Yet they show hunting shows all the time on ESPN Outdoors.  Nice hypocisy ESPN.  Not that I'm surprised.

I had a friend who was covering a game at Wrigley Field once and Berman was there for ESPN. He said he walked in on him in the bathroom changing clothes and said he is disgustingly fat.

That is all.

Arenas was an idiot, on several levels.  You don't tug on Superman's cape, or David Stern's.

As far as ESPN, well, they have a dozen channels on 24/7, got to fill that space with something even if its drivel.  And they come out of Connecticut, what do you expect?

Marcellus says "I don't think it's as big of a problem as we believe it is, only about 50% of the players own guns..."

Wait, since when is owning a gun a problem?

He goes on to say "the majority are safe and smart and don't own guns..."

Oh so now gun owners are dumb and careless? Talk about an insulting implication.
