What kind of people listened to Genesis in the 70's?
I don't quite understand where they fit in back then. I get where they fit in during the 80's and 90's and Peter Gabriel as well. But this 70's stuff is so far out there, I don't get it. Were they popular back in the 70s? or did they just take off in the 80's after alienating a core Prog-rock dope smoker crowd? I mean thats what Jefferson Airplane and Shitwood Mac did, but Genesis seems to have done this with their credibility intact. |

Quoted: Did you see who is playing the drums? ![]() Quoted: Quoted: Awesome stuff. Heavy as hell for the time. I was a huge fan for many years. Peter Gabriel Genesis is best Genesis, and it's not even close. Did you see who is playing the drums? ![]() Um, yeah. For all of his faults and poor decisions later in life Phil Collins was a hell of a drummer in his day. |

Genesis was once a great progressive rock band.
It was still progressive after Gabriel left. 2 more progressive albums, Trick of the Tail and Wind and Wuthering. Then Hackett left, and Genesis began its slow slide into becoming a pop band. Under Collins, Genesis became one of the world's best pop bands. But in the end it was only pop rock, and there were and still are a lot of other pop bands. |
