I thought this was an awesome flick. Some holes, sure. But one of the best Sci Fi movies I have seen since I don't know when.
Tom Cruise may be a nut, but he makes some good movies. Thumbs up on this one! Movie rocked! |

I liked it as well. As weird as Cruise is in real life, I usually enjoy his flicks. Be warned, much like the repeating of events in the movie, the dupe police are going to swarm this thread. Unpossible. THere is only one thread out there relating to whether Scratch45 liked this one |

Actually the book kinda sucks. I want to see the movie though. We don't go to the actual theater much anymore. We watch later when it's available for rent on Amazon Instant Watch. I normally follow this to the T (I hate people in theatres, the cell phones and sounds of people talking and chewing with their mouths open induces a feral urge to destroy the planet). However, considering how 'meh' it's doing at the box office I've been told the theatres are already relatively empty. I'll probably see it this weekend. |

Everybody I've seen comment on it says it's amazing and I thought it was too. I can't understand why it's not doing better at the box office. It's one of the best movies I've seen in a while. It was good! But all these movies are the same, everybody does it. |

Everybody from scyfy(Star Trek) to comedy(Ground Hog Day) makes a show about a day repeating it's self. Sure they try their hardest to make it different but it ends up the same. |

I just got schooled. The second link is for one of my threads. I didn't even now that was still alive |

Go see it again, it's not making much money. Some emo cancer patient love story is cleaning its clock. Movie profits are not the metric you use to tell if a movie is good or not. I'm not suggesting that. I'm suggesting for folks to see it again to boost its box office take...so studios will continue to make original sci fi movies. If it tanks, you're going to get White Girls 4. |

Told ya, OP!

It's not really a time travel movie. The day resets every time the main character dies (and he retains his memory). Quoted:

Hmm, I ususally don't care for time travel movies. It's not really a time travel movie. The day resets every time the main character dies (and he retains his memory). Think Groundhog Day with kick-ass weapons and aliens.....But no "I Got You Babe".

Everybody from scyfy(Star Trek) to comedy(Ground Hog Day) makes a show about a day repeating it's self. Sure they try their hardest to make it different but it ends up the same. Are there really that many examples of this concept to say that "everybody" does it? Groundhog Day is an iconic movie, and All You Need is Kill is clearly based on it, and doesn't really pretend not to be - albeit with quite a different twist, in the sense that the main character has a purpose in it, and uses the time reset towards that end, whereas in Groudnhog Day, the movie is about how the character grows and improves as a person while trapped in the same day. So while the underlying "reset" concept is the same, the movies are very different to me. The Star Trek episode, while it clearly steals the idea of a day resetting, does it in a completely different way, in that none of the characters REMEMBER anything from previous loops, until they gradually start to suspect and "feel" a weird sense of deja vue. Again, while the plot idea of the day resetting is used as a plot device, the story is told very differently, and to a different end. So I'd disagree both with the idea that "everyone" has done this story (unless you can provide tons more examples), and with the idea that it's the same story, since it's a quite different approach in each of the three examples you raised. I thought Edge of Tomorrow was a clever and neat way to tell an interesting Sci-Fi/War story, as an obvious homage to Groundhog Day. |
